People were already grumpy about the way it was being renovated and who was renovating it before it turned green. i dislike it, but statesians are in general pretty ableist (i have charts and graphs if you disagree) so they’re not going to vote for someone they acknowledge has a physical deficiency. Hell, from wikipedia on FDR:
