so like this is the worst part, i can see logically why they might. “gotta project strength. old and ailing projects weakness. regardless of whether the chronic ailment (getting old) is physical or mental, the statesian public assumes any physical decline is immediately preceded by a major mental decline and putain has a literal army division devoted to memes” or something like that.
i dislike it, but statesians are in general pretty ableist (i have charts and graphs if you disagree) so they’re not going to vote for someone they acknowledge has a physical deficiency. Hell, from wikipedia on FDR:
Roosevelt remained paralyzed from the waist down and relied on a wheelchair and leg braces for mobility, which he took efforts to conceal in public.
he wouldn’t have concealed it if the public were accepting of those with disabilities. And this was before the damned polio vaccine (that was 1950. he died 5 years before and really needed it in 1920 as he got sick in 1921) so like, you’d think people would be more accepting? or maybe just more people died.
and well, when i lived in utah, attitudes seemed very set in the 1930s
also those charts and graphs are for if you agree too.
