I appreciate your generosity, and I want to share it. I’m open to the possibility.
I think it’s far more likely that just as he was on the forefront of the insane right wing unltra-conservative movement when he was on CNN, I think he’s looking a few steps down the road and knows that Trump’s time is coming to an end - either through term limits and/or death from old age and poor health. And possibly effectively sooner if the mid-terms go poorly. So that there’s about to be a massive power vacuum on the right. He’s distancing himself from what is about to be a collapse of the party. He knows it’ll take a couple of years to build up a viable alternative to Trump’s party, so he’s starting those wheels.
No doubt. I’ll pose a question: if we all are so cynical that we can’t allow for a redemption arc, what are we fighting for?
I want us to strive for a ST:TNG reality.
That said, your scenario is more realistic. I am not a tragic optimist; truly, a skeptical pessimistic is a better description. But I will not shut anyone out if they’re honestly contrite.
I don’t know if he is. I’m willing to gamble on it because in this case, we’ve already lost. Whatever the situation, he’s on the right side of the Israeli conundrum. I do think he’s got this country as his priority. Not Israel.
I’m no nationalist; that’s a sick mentality. But I’d rather someone not be Israel first.
I’m open to that but I will also not be surprised when the first thing he says after this is just the same shit wrapped with a different bow.
When people show you who they are, believe them, and whatnot. And Tucker has truly, consistently, shown that he’s a heinous human being powered by hate.
Yeah, he’s a neonazi who is trying to get ahead of Trump’s inevitable implosion.
He’s still constantly espousing the racist “great replacement” theory, and his political project is to bring more people into the reactionary tent. For now, that means being critical of Israel, but that’s only because he sees which way the wind is blowing.
This is not a redemption arc, this is him getting off the sinking ship so he can position himself for a presidential run with even worse policies and ideals. Like he’ll actually have ideals and they will be evil.
If you think this man is anything but an evil white supremacist grifter, then I’ve also got a bridge to sell you.
I’m all for redemption arcs, but it’s not this simple. Nothing this guy has said or done implies that he is anything but further right than Trump and maga. Open your eyes.
If you want a true redemption arc, you need to AT THE VERY LEAST START WITH repenting (in their words so they know what it actually means). Nothing he has done is even close to that.
Tucker had his chance at redemption when Jon Stewart got Crossfire shut down. Instead he stayed away for a couple years and came back worse then ever but without the bow tie.
if we all are so cynical that we can’t allow for a redemption arc, what are we fighting for?
A con artist knowning when to pivot to the next con isn’t anything to do with redemption, it’s just recidivism.
One thing I’m fighting for is rational, fact-based decision-making. Ascribing honorable motives to a person who has never shown a sign of having them is softheaded fantasizing.
Tucker is setting up for a presidential run is what the right wing types told me earlier this year.
Idk how his anti israel stance would allow that to happen, he would almost have to betray those newfound anti israel positions to get the nomination I would think. Israel would kill him otherwise.
Besides for that, he’s their best candidate that seems to be angling for it at the moment. He could win, unfortunately. It would be a small improvement in some ways from what is going on now, not good enough obviously.
So, should he go back to that? Or, you know, could leaving MSM possibly allowed for some clarity.
I’m not forgiving his past. I’m allowing for the possibility of reconciliation. I’m also hoping he brings people with him.

Rats from the sinking ship and all that.

Don’t trust the snake that already bit you twice.
Let’s watch and see. Thanks for the discourse. We need more of it. This conversation is mega nuanced. (or MAGA nuanced? Ha)

Welcome to the eugenics wars…

I mean there were the leaked texts of him bashing Trump https://www.mediamatters.org/foxdominion-lawsuit/tucker-carlsons-disparaging-private-messages-about-trump-contradict-his-pro
But that doesn’t do much for his credibility lol
He’s gearing up for his next grift. Outrage sells and there’s plenty of outrage fuel directed at the GOP.

Good article. No notes.
This guy isn’t virtuous, and doesn’t deserve the benefit of any doubt.
Still, I’ll be happy for now for anyone willing to turn on Trump.
Everybody talkin’ ‘bout peace, none of them is cryin’ out for justice.
You’re a fool.
