YouTube content creators are dealing with the same bullshit to a degree. Especially on the music side. DCMA and copyright strikes are being weaponized to shut content down someone doesn’t like, not because there’s actually infringement going on. You see that happening now too with comic/comedy commentator channels, e.g. the whole Brendan Schaub bit.
There’s a lawyer I follow on YT who speaks about this a lot.
But the disturbing thread running through all these requests is how easy it’s become for copyright trolls to leverage the DMCA to intimidate providers
I remember this issue being pointed out by the more vocal critics of the dmca when the bill was working its way through Congress. They warned that “remove first, ask questions later” would be abused by corporations in this exact manner with effectively no recourse for people who can’t afford a lawyer for every single time there victimized by a wrongful takedown request.
And here we are, decades later, and it’s been a problem this whole time.
Ted Cruz and Amy Klobachar are pushing a bill that doesn’t even have that recourse.

It’s got to be intentional, these people are lawyers and know exactly how the law works.
That was always the intention of the law.
They say haves and have nots, but it’s more haves and I fucking dare you to try to have
Copyright and patent laws need to die.
Send the Italian plumbers boys
I hope the next adjuster wears a mario hat in the act, I truly do.
Here’s to hoping he has a twin brother, who is equally as cool.
Halloween '25 gonna be huge for the luigi twins and bustin CEO blocks
furries can be yoshi or somethin idk there’s family fun
Oh my… I’m not sure what kind of family you grew up in…
Every couple has a pet furry, don’t they?
Is that what they call kids these days? That explains a lot.
And just when it seems Luigi is out of the news here comes the Streisand Effect with a steel chair!
Wait a minute I gotta make this better lol
Edit: better, and only uses public domain images.
This is so super illegal. Maybe UHC thinks the Trump admin will shield them but under laws as written this is fucking bonkers.
There are no consequences anymore. Musk proved it when he openly bribed politicians on Twitter to try to force a gov shutdown.
It’s not illegal if it’s not enforced.
Put one of these on the end of that: “,for you.”
Think anybody has the money to fight it? That’s what they’re banking on.
Yea, I bet there are some lawyers like LegalEagle that are foaming at the mouth to find someone with proper standing.
This is such an open and shut case - assuming it is actually UHC sending these notices in an official capacity.
There are no consequences for deliberate DMCA misuse/abuse. It was designed as a tool to be abused solely by those with deep pockets, so it’s working exactly as intended.
There are no consequences for mistakenly issuing a notice for a piece of content you own. There are consequences for fraudulently misrepresenting yourself as the content owner.
DMCA was entirely created for illegitimate uses though right? It’s been rife with abuse since it started.
It’s only illegitimate if you’re poor.
They’re pulling a Nintendo against people who support Luigi.
What you did there…
I see it.
Someone feel free to edit him in
First they came for Mario…
Do they think they own him?
He’s a US citizen, isn’t he?
They do now.
Just make some AI-generated images of Luigi Mangione and say it’s art.
Transpose his face into revolutionary war paintings of washington
The masks have come off.
Claim DENIED
Claimant did not take preventative measures, as required under section 48, paragraph 16, item 4 of the policy agreement.
Please let them get royally fucked over copyright laws. That’s not how they work.
Even if we gave benefit of doubt, they couldn’t buy the rights to his image until after he died and I doubt he would sign off on the rights while still alive.
DMCA? Try DMCA’ing these Torrents
(Share them images via Torrents, folks, they can’t DMCA us all!)
James Corden strikes again!
