Palestine is expected to submit its application to join the BRICS, a group of emerging economies, after its upcoming summit in October in the city of Kazan, southwestern Russia.
Earlier, Putin invited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan.
“This invitation means that despite all the crimes, killings and destruction in the Gaza Strip, our message is that Palestine wants to live and to develop,” Ambassador Nofal added.
BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In January, it welcomed Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the UAE as full members.
Seems like Palestine is being pushed into that sphere of influence by lack of support from western countries.
And how is joining the loser club going to help them? Do they really think Russia or China give a flying fuck about the Palestinian people? All they’ll do is use them as props to criticise the West. Actually helping them would be counterproductive to their intentions
This is no kindergarden, there are no winner and loser clubs, only national interests and geopolitics. Membership is voluntary, so Palestine can chose whatever best serves their country.
Yeah, my point is that this doesn’t.
How doesn’t, the west has turned its back on the genocide they are facing so it only makes sense that they would seek to align themselves with players outside that group.
China and Russia are as self serving as the US, no less or no more. Palestine could benefit from this relationship more than it benefits from being ignored by the west.
China and Russia are both committing genocide right now.
And how that’s affect Palestine?
Sure, but they aren’t doing it in Palestine, which is what the Palestinians are currently concerned about.
Ok?
So are the USA, or at the very least being complicit and enabling. Furthermore, of the Palestinians themselves!
Israel is committing a genocide. The world is letting it happen. The US is supplying them with weapons and has a ten year weapons contract with them that was signed in 2016.
Fixed it for ya.
How is that a fix? You added weight to my argument.
“The world” is not letting it happen though. The USA were the only country to veto the 2 cease-fire Security Council resolutions early in the conflict, only to later propose a washed down, toothless resolution.
The USA remains silent over the ICJ’s ruling after South Africa’s genocide case.
The USA are the ones slapping Netanyahu on the wrist but still supplying him with weapons, money and intelligence.
The fact that it’s a 10 year contract has nothing to do with the issue. Surely your weapons and money being used to perpetrate a genocide would be reason enough to breach the contract, if there was political will. The problem is, there isn’t.
So but China is literally rounding up Uighurs into camps though, you have to understand that it’s not the same thing
Of course not. Israel is not only rounding up Palestinians but also bombing them, raping them, destroying their infrastructure, killing international aid workers to stop help coming in, destroying their schools and hospitals, … all with the support, political, financial and in weapons, of “the west”, led by the USA.
Edit: and with very little hope of that changing after elections. https://theintercept.com/2024/08/30/kamala-harris-cnn-interview-israel-gaza/
It makes perfect sense under current circumstances where our side is supporting the aggressor. Why the fuck would they align themselves with the people providing the bombs landing on them?
While you may be right that joining BRICS might not be the greatest option I don’t think they have broad choice at this point. What would you do in their place?
Has the West has offered Palestine an alternative? Any alternative? Anything? The only thing we have offered them is perpetual subjugation and genocide. So what the fuck do you expect them to do?
What do they have to lose? The west still giving unconditional support to the terrorist state of israel
