        A sizable amount of the English reading population comes from countries where convictions come after trials, and trials have the accused present. It’s not unreasonable to assume that he might have been in custody. Also they didn’t mention he is still hiding out of the country until the last paragraph.

          That’s why you read the article. The headline is accurate, not sensational. At this point he has been sentenced, which is the news. Article provides context around the current situation of him being in hiding.
