The court heard Bull was among five people who interrupted the Academy Award-winning Holocaust drama by making Nazi salutes, denying the Holocaust, and praising Adolf Hitler during the screening.

Bull also told the court he relied on Centrelink payments to support his family and said his partner was expecting their second child within days.

Bull did not apologise for his conduct during the proceedings.

Bull appeared in court wearing a black Helly Hansen polo shirt. The clothing brand has been appropriated by some far-right extremists because its prominent “HH” logo is interpreted by them as an abbreviation for “Heil Hitler.”

So this nazi and his coward friends disrupted a crowded theater by mocking the holocaust, making nazi salutes, and saying hitler was right. He shows up in a heil hitler shirt, never apologizes, says he shouldn’t face punishment because he’s “suffered enough being unemployable as a result of his actions,” and… they say OK? This scumbag is reproducing, living off welfare, and is actively promoting genocidal hate, and the judge says “just have him do a bit of community service?”

Guys. Remember what we used to do to nazis 60 years ago? Why don’t they just do that?

The article says he was convicted to 125h of community services. It just wasn’t put on his record. Or am I reading it wrong?

Yep. He basically argued that being famous as a Nazi was already making it impossible to find work, and a mark on his record would just make it worse. And then mentioned the second kid on the way to sell the sob story.

It seems like some parts of Australia have something called a “no conviction”. Never seen that before.

After considering the case, Ms Stuthridge decided not to record a conviction.

That’s the way I’m reading it.

Doesn’t work that way at all in my US state. Every conviction is recorded and you can apply to have your record expunged or receive a “certificate of employability” five years after your conviction.

    performing a prohibited Nazi salute

Well, this isn’t as bad as the Poland thing, but it’s still an odd thing to outlaw. (I’m not suggesting he shouldn’t be lambasted in the court of public opinion, though.)

As bad as the US is at everything else, at least Freedom of Speech is still alive and well.

no, I’m fine with prohibiting the nazi salute, because we’re not allowed to shoot or beat the shit out of them for doing it. Make it legal to kill nazis and then, yeah, sure, help identify yourself as a nazi all you want.

Alt-history is lame. Like it would ve lame to be yelling about germ theory, or how steam is superior than gasoline.

Alt-history is lame, and these WW2 revisionists are in that same category.

Hey, alt-history could be very interesting! I wanna know what current year would be like in a place where indigenous folk beat the shit out of colonizers hundreds of heard ago and drove them away. A big place, not just like North Sentinel Island. I’m sure that’s a concept that’s been written?

*[…] Bull argued that his political views had already damaged his ability to find work.

    No conviction and zero remorse.
