Air defense batteries fired in several provinces over reports of drones being in the air, state television reported.

State television described all atomic sites in the area as “fully safe.” The United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency, also said “there is no damage to Iran’s nuclear sites” after the incident. Gen. Siavosh Mihandoost, a local army commander, also told state TV the incident caused “no damage” around Isfahan.

Iran then grounded commercial flights in Tehran and across areas of its western and central regions. Loudspeakers informed customers of the incident at Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, online videos purported to show. Iran later restored normal flight service, authorities said.

As of the latest updates I can find, it sounds like the attack was in fact very limited. Assuming the unnamed sources are correct and this was the Israeli response that American and Israeli officials talked about, perhaps this will end the regional escalations. Of course we’ll have to see how this develops, but maybe the posturing will be over for now given that both Israel and Iran limited themselves to largely symbolic attacks in turn.

Why the f did they even fire at Iran. It’s like they’re asking for the war to spread everywhere

The same reason why Iran sent drones and missiles while warning Israel that they were going to do that beforehand. Symbolic act without causing an actual escalation.

I think it’s sort of a way to save face. “Look, we responded!” When it was honestly a pretty low-level response. Almost like a half assed way of honoring the US request that they not respond

Because if you don’t do anything after such a massive attack, what kind of message are you sending out into the world?

So… Just for shits and giggles, What kind of message are you sending out to the world if you let a terrorist nation break all international norms by committing a direct act of war by blowing up your embassy and doing nothing?
