At the international level, society is essentially lawless. The only thing holding us together are the norms against committing heinous crimes which are barely held together by shaming and sanctioning. But we can’t shame or sanction Israel because that would be anti-Semitic. So now the anarchy is naked, on display, and signalling to the entire world of warmongering assholes that it you stick your fingers in your ears and scream about terrorists hard enough, there are no consequences for what you do.

For that, every single world leader who backed Israel, made pathetic excuses for its crimes, and refused to acknowledge obvious violations of international law should have our contempt. I am ashamed of my home country, the country I live in, and many nations who I thought more of. Biden has made himself an accessory to genocide.

I’m not sure there is any going back. The West has lost it’s tenuous moral authority and the respect of me and I’m sure many other people. Just like how we look back at the holocaust and wonder how it could have gone that far, we will look back at what’s happening right now with horror and shame. We will have to explain to new generations how so many countries of the world just watched on as it unfolded and how we had to sit, helplessly watching a feed of constant tragedy and war crimes through our phone screens.

I do understand your point and I do not want to derail the conversation from what you say, but I also have to mention that the following is highly problematic

At the international level, we live in anarchy

Anarchy is a political movement that aims to have societies with horizontal organization. Of course there are many flavors, different proposals on how to achieve this etc. We definitely do not live in such conditions. On the contrary we live in highly hierarchical societies, some would argue that we have totalitarian tendencies lately.

Anyways please do not be one of those that misuse the term anarchy like we see in mainstream media for instance.

Yeah good point! I will make an edit. I don’t know the specifics but I meant “lawless” rather than implying a specific structure of a society. Thanks for that, I will also read about this some more
