I’ve noticed that there seems to be an emphasis on being extremely serious at all times, as if every single comment is a PhD dissertation being evaluated or something. There’s like this weird, subtle one upmanship about every little thing and a lot of people are very nitpicky and judgmental. It kind of takes the fun out of being on here, TBH. Or am I the only one experiencing this?

most of it is just people thinking they are special/superior because they use Linux.
or hate cars, or only PC game, or …
and if you suggest that maybe that choice is just an arbitrary choice and not the reason why they are a Superior Being, yeah they will get very angry at you and tell you how wrong and dumb you are.
Being a console gamer who uses a Windows PC for work and owns a car… I am the everything that is destroying society, according to your standard lemmy user.
I really don’t think that that is representative of a standard Lemmy user, they’re just loudest.
nobody hears people who don’t speak.
and if you speak up and you are not part of the hivemind, they will try to either silence you, or browbeat you into conformity.
or just falsely report your comments so you get banned…
As someone who gasp games on both a console and a PC, uses Windows for business and Linux for pleasure, drives a car, rides a bike, puts said bike on the car, sometimes rides a train, takes said bike on the train, and one time even put my car on the train… Yeah I suppose I can have a lot of fun here.
you sound like a straight up menace to society. we need to lock folks like you up.
i bet you even put your bike on your car… and put it on a boat. insanity.
One time I got off a plane and transferred straight onto my bike and rode home 😈
Yup, not liking the right things and liking the wrong things is a big no-no, and you are a big stupid dummy head for not seeing that. The only one I can really get behind is the absolutely vehement hatred for AI slop on here, its fun to dog pile people for posting that stuff.
I also hate the slop, but the AI hate can go too far, and extend to areas where it’s not deserved. To be clear, yes, you’re absolutely in your rights to not like any of it at all.
It’s my opinion that, while it’s totally ok to be skeptical and hold strong opinions, it’s not cool to spread FUD about something you don’t really understand. It’s even worse to do it solely because you see others doing it. I get that there’s an urge to belong, and be on the right side of things, I do. But come on. If you’re going to protest something, be thoughtful, be willing to investigate, and be willing to admit that it’s possible for this enormously large, complex new thing to contain multitudes and be the mother of all mixed bags, and will have good and bad things coming out of it. Your position will be much stronger.
Its a neat tool in its own respect, I was initially mildly impressed by them. Its being sold like magic beans though, which is why its so hard to understand what is actually going on with them. The very real effects on the economy, the power grid, and the environment all speak for themselves. It’s just gone completely manic in a way that I feel justifies the FUD.
