Well if we look at political affiliation as a 2 dimensional spectrum Republicans are way out to the right, while democrats are fighting for a much more varried voterbase. It’s no wonder the democratic party can’t agree on anything, because their voterbase is everything from communist, anarchist, socialist, social democrats, liberals, classical conservatives.
You are never going to get those people to agree on a lot of things, and it’s by design. The republicans want it this way, because it splits the left, while the right mostly cares about murdering people who are different from themselves.
