Caitlin Cross-Barnet earned a PhD from Johns Hopkins University. Caitlin joined the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, where she helped design and evaluate programs to improve pregnancy and child health outcomes.

Her job was testing tiny changes to Medicaid to yield better patient outcomes and save taxpayer money. But Caitlin told her friends that those tiny adjustements, especially in maternal health, could save lives. She oversaw a federal program to help pregnant mothers addicted to opioids.

All her work data was deleted. Harassed by DOGE emails, Caitlin killed herself

Last month, he was rehired only to be fired a second time — after courts ruled some of Trump’s layoffs illegal, then legal again.

    Fucking hell.

As much as I hate private ownership of the means of production, her death is tied more to Musk and Republicans. And everyone even slightly responsible for Trump’s victory through action or inaction.

Any time something bad happens in a capitalist system, it’s because of capitalism.

A “free market” as in the sense these lunatics envision it is a market devoid of any form of outside regulations. In essence, survival of the fittest on an economical level: Profit above all else, might makes right, consequences be damned. One president führer CEO calling the shots, everybody else following or getting crushed in the machinery.

So you tell me: What’s not authoritarian about corporate capitalism?

Capitalism inherently doesn’t require a free market… It just requires oligarchs to own emans of production

Free market is a separate topic and it doesn’t rally exist anyway

I mean Doge doesn’t even really fit into what most would call capitalism. Closer to corruption, hubris, and plain old stupidity really.

It fits perfectly as a vessel to further the neoliberal agenda of dismantling any form of regulations to create their vision of a “perfect” free market society.

Isn’t John Hopkins the wackjob college that RWNJs always reference for their horrendously incorrect medical “assessments”? Or am I thinking of something else?

Edit: well fuck me for asking a genuine question. There is some school or at least a website with a similar-sounding name that RWNJs love to reference, but I cannot remember it. Yes I tried searching. Hence the question.

Famous and well respected. I think I can only name three that come close - Duke University, Cleveland Clinic, and Mayo Clinic.

Edit: and Brigham and Women’s. Ok maybe there are more now that I’m pondering it.

Yeah, pretty much every medical research institution does. Hell, pretty much every research institution period does with the US Military.

Saying that they do research for the regime because they have federal funds is a bit of a stretch.

I’m with you. Not that I’m not up for placing blame where it is due. But also I want to see not accurate information from the left because it’s getting absolutely unhinged. Too many times I’ve brought up some point like this that I’ve seen only to have more information revealed to me that turns out it was practically bullshit. People are just reacting to headlines more and more and it’s causing this information degradation on the left

Guess your job doesn’t involve saving the lives of hundreds of pregnant women and their babies. I guess if everything you’ve done over the past 10 years was ripped out and thrown away it would destroy nothing of value and you wouldn’t care. And if we hired a bunch of goons to attack you every time you were online and threaten you in person it would have no affect on your mental health. But she did, it was, and it did for her.

You know what? I was so out of brain this morning I stared at that for a whole minute wondering if it was right. I write for work every goddamn day and I was like “WTF… how did I forget this. I use these words EVERY DAY.” I knew until I thought about it.

I almost looked it up but then was like… no, 50/50 shot and everyone will know what I mean. No one will point it out.

People who work in research often have their whole life built around their specific field of research, to the point where their transferable skills and knowledge are minimized or excluded. Financially, they’re usually dependent on the institution they work for to a far greater degree than most professions are, which is part of why tenure exists. They also—but certainly not always—are neurodivergent. Their area of research is necessarily something they’re passionate about.

I can totally see this happening. There’s a lot going on in the world right now. Many people are experiencing extreme anxiety about world events they don’t have power over.

Being personally bullied by the government specifically about the work that is tremendously personally important would be devastating.

Happens on the time. Especially in professions where your life is basically work.
