I was searching through the megathread (https://rentry.co/megathread) and I found that yts.mx and 1337x.to are labeled as ‘fake clones’. I have used both of these several times

Are yts.mx and 1337x.to considered unsafe? I have them in my prowlarr and wondering if I should remove them

Edit: I was wrong 1337x is not labeled as a fake clone, I misread the fake clone which is 1377x

Just enable excluded filenames like *.exe *.lnk for example. YTS despite being a clone, it still has a decent collection.

I have been using 1337x.to for years and it’s listed as #1 option for general purpose torrents in the megathread. I get everything from there, except for music which rutracker is better for.

You should always be careful when downloading stuff though, once I was drunk torrenting and found a movie, but for some reason it wouldn’t play. The next day I noticed it was an exe file…

Indeed. That was back when I used windows, and I found it quarantined in defender. No idea what kind of spyware I got from it, but I wasn’t hacked and I didn’t lose my moneys.

In the case of 1337x.to, the megathread lists 1377x.to as the fake replica of it. In terms of quality, 1337x.to is one of the best public torrent indexers.

While I personally prefer not to use YTS releases due to their low quality, and can’t seem to find a legitimate YTS link that yts.mx would be the replica of, as long as you’re downloading via Prowlarr rather than going to the website itself, the only risk is the trustworthiness of the releases, rather than the possibility of ads or otherwise unwanted links on the website itself.

I don’t know about yts, but last time I checked 1337x is totally safe as long as you download from trustworthy sources.

From personal experience yts.mx the site is full of ads redirects, etc. so using their site with proper ad, java blocking is a must, as for the files themselves having issues (viruses, worms, Trojans) I have not had issues as I scan everything in a secure space before adding to my server. And nothing has been detected so far.

Last time I tried YTS they wouldn’t show magnet links anymore without you making an account (and during downtime they show IIS.NET errors, which is a pretty clear indication a large corporation is hiring contractors to run it) which seems VERY sketchy put together

They previously sold out email addresses to an anti-piracy law firm which proceeded to extort penalty settlements from the holders of the accounts. This is why their upload bots were banned on leet x.

Yeah, I heard that. Part of why I assume they’re a honeypot. Not that I didn’t use them before requiring accounts. If you tor to a honeypot with best practices, good luck tracking…

I use a seedbox to download the file from their site links for me, so I don’t see any of that anymore, so while I use their site I don’t directly interact with the torrent files or magnet links.

If the link is never exposed, how does your seedbox see it without an account? And are you x remote desktopping Firefox from your seedbox? i’m confused…
