The rules literally save you money. I got a new more efficient AC last year. Energy bill in the summer is like 100-200 less a month

Everything is symbolic. It isn’t about saving money or reducing the use of materials. Since some people who are center-left would like to protect the planet, what they want is a target for removal. It’s all about showing your enemies who’s boss.

That explains the elites among conservatives, naturally. But the kind of people that will not be enriched and will actively be harmed, but cheer for this?

That’s probably more explained by conservative identity politics.

The people that fall for this shit are brainless morons looking to “own the libs” (meaning anyone that has an education and/or is smarter than they are) because what they want is “woke”. So not doing what the “libs” want - even if the morons benefit from what the “libs” want - is fighting wokeness and therefore, doubleplusgood.

Yes, it really is that fucking stupid if you talk to some of them.

Meanwhile, the elite in the conservative movement that push this kind of thing probably own lots of interest in companies dealing with energy. No, they won’t be cutting the morons in on the profits, either.

The director of energy is a fossil fuel executive I think. They want people to use as much power as possible.
