do you have any specific quirk about wallpapers?
I’ve used plain black as my phone wallpaper for most of its lifetime, because every time I tried a wallpaper I just find them distracting and made icons harder to identify
recently I tried to use some just to not get dragged into the “wow” trend and make my phone feel shiny and novelty again, no need to change
but it’s so hard to find those that don’t trigger my brain and make me want to go back to black!
I mostly feel comfortable with low contrast, abstract, plain or gradient ones so it’s an actual “background” image that looks good but doesn’t compete for my attention, however SEO favours really detailed and complex ones
do you feel the same?
Yes, completely black here! So easy to look at
Crystals. Always crystals upclose ! They’re beautiful, colorfoul, full of natural structure…
I always use some sort of dark mode wallpaper. I’ve been using a screenshot from the game Elite Dangerous for several years now on my phone, while my PC uses the default dark wallpaper that got set when I updated bios drivers for my motherboard (AMD Ryzen wallpaper). There’s another community that has some good dark wallpapers for phone if you want to try changing things up: https://lemmy.world/c/amoledbackgrounds
I like photos of flowers or my dogs.
Sometimes I like photos of birds, or also other animals.
I prefer a darker background accented with bright colours, usually pinks, reds, and purples.
I use rainmeter and novalauncher to make my spaces kind of art pieces. Fung shue n shit.
But matte black sounds pretty appealing right now.
It needs to be perfect and not clash with icons or widgets.
I collect cool looking wallpapers and make an effort to change my phone often. Usually every quarter/season.
It’s similar to our house decorations. I’ll have something spooky in October. Something with a lot of oranges, reds, and yellows in November and December. Bright and colorful for April-June. Everything else is usually a wild card: cool art, fantasy, landacapes vaporwave, whatever neat stuff I can find that isn’t tied to a season or holiday.
I find it helps me to get in the spirit of the sesson and fully appreciate it. Fall really feels like fall. It kind of regulates my sense of the passage of time too.
I set up an automation to change it everyday cause if I don’t, I tent to forget to change it and get bored easily lol then I wonder why and that’s the reason
Always plain black for me. My lock screen on my phone was for years as well, but now is a picture of my wife and I.
awwww that’s cute
I shall try using something for lockscreen and plain black for home too
I like having a work of art, usually in a simplistic style, because so much of life is plain black, or grey, already … I want colour and joy in things that I look at regularly.
I also stickerbomb the backs of my phones too, and then add a clear cover :-)
Too much detail or contrast are an insta-nope. So for example if its orange it should be all orange, not having an island of contrasting colour somewhere. You can find the older stock wallpapers from various phones like the oneplus and pixel lines and some of those are quite good. I also like the ones that animate just for a second as you switch the screen on and off, but these are so hard to find. The animated ones I find are permanently animated and this is horrible and unusable.
agree, sometimes I find cute abstract wallpapers but they feel wrong once applied, it seems like it’s something about the constraint, so I prefer gradients instead also, that one wallpaper from Android Jelly Bean look so cute still, it has colours but very subtle ones
Ive found a dark green theme to be the best for me. So I mostly rotate through some pictures of ferns and jungle plants or forests.
Same!

I found this picture online so I can’t remember original source.
I like the results searching for “black sand wallpaper” or “dark low poly wallpaper”
Some people put photos and stuff, and I just don’t get it! Personally, I have a painterly night sky for my background—very soft and well, background-y.
there’s a community here for those [email protected]
it’s where I got my dark low contrast one 😄
My only rule is that I don’t stretch anything too small to fit. I would sooner go upscale it with AI than stretch a 320x240 image to 1080p or 4K.
