Ahoy, fellow pirates. I’m having 2 issues:
1. “No streams found” on Stremio when SurfShark is turned on.
Call me crazy, but this basically defeats the purpose of SurfShark. They work when I turn it off. Even turning off “CleanWeb” on SurfShark doesn’t do it.
Any ideas why?
2. TorBox doesn’t let me pay.
This is a weird one. It seems TorBox isn’t very privacy-friendly. I did the one-day trial, and then wanted to pay. But they prevented me from paying altogether. Their support doesn’t say why, but they want me to disable my browser extensions, turn off my VPN, etc. Makes no sense to me, but I’m tired of trying. And I’m sure if I create a new account with them, the same thing will happen.
Who should I use instead of TorBox?
My priority is getting set up on Stremio and/or Nuvio.tv, but I was also hoping that my debrid service would integrate nicely with CinemaHQ.
I was looking at put.io, but on CHQ there are only the following services:
- Premiumize
- TorBox
- AllDebrid (I heard this is having issues recently?)
- EasyNews
- Trakt
1 many websites block vpns, sadly the websites used to search for links will block you. This is not a stremio/stremio add-on issue.
2 they’re telling you to disable extension/VPN because usually it’s what is blocking payment processors. This is not a torbox issue, payment is always an issue for privacy, and if you’re paying with a card/paypal, it does not make any difference to hide your ip.
Trakt is not a debrid service, and I’ve never heard of easy news, also I’d expect you to have the same issues while paying on other websites.
If you really don’t want to disable either the VPN and possibly the extensions check if one of the debrid service accepts either gift cards or crypto payments
So the streaming and torrent websites will block the software that makes it possible to access them privately? That’s mind boggling honestly.
I gave up on TorBox and went to Premiumize instead. No issues.
VPNs providers have a limited number of exits, so their IP address are “public”.
Since a lot of scammers etc use VPNs to operate, it’s common for many platforms to just block these known IPs.
Google may ask for CAPTCHAs, for example.
Torrentio has been restricted depending on the country that you’re VPN-ing from. Even without a debrid, just VPN, torrentio on stremio was rarely working.
Ended up using TorrentsDB, a torrentio alternative add-on that uses the same scraped data as torrentio but was more readily available.
https://stremio-addons.net/addons/torrentsdb
I don’t know why you’re facing those issues with TorBox. I signed up with a VPN on and no issues. People tend to prefer TorBox specifically because they don’t care about your IP address and they accept multiple accesses to the same login. Are you using a bank card for payment?
Worst case, try signing up for TorBox from a public wifi or similar.
Also with TorBox, they’re pretty private already and you don’t necessarily have to use a VPN. But you still can if that’s what you want.
I’ll try ToreentsDB, thanks. I was planning on paying for TorBox with a Privacy(.)com virtual card, not my actual bank card.
Public WiFi is s good idea, and I’ll try that. Thanks.
I will add that if you want free streaming, then TorrentsDB works better than Torrentio.
But if you’re paying for a debrid service like Torbox, then it might be redundant to have TorrentsDB and it could clutter up your Stremio UI.
From some of the setups I’ve seen out there, people’s optimal method is to have AIOStreams add-on in Stremio, then configure AIOStreams with the Debrid Service and their chosen filters. It’s supposed to lead to a cleaner and more responsive Stremio UI.
Very interesting. Thank you.
Can TorrentsDB be self-hosted?
I found a repo on github, but it hasn’t been updated in 6 years.
I’ve only used it as an add-on with Stremio tbh.
There are probably better options for self-hosting than it.
AIO stream, it would also resolve the VPN problems op has (unless you also use the VPN on the server for aiostream)
https://github.com/Viren070/AIOStreams
it also has many more features than torrentio. I’m self hosting one and am really happy with the result
- If using Torrentio, have you tried Comet instead? https://comet.elfhosted.com/configure
- RealDebrid still works with both Torrentio and Comet
I have not but will give it a go. Thanks!
If you’re using Torrentio, then it’s probably not SurfShark at fault, but rather that Torrentio blocks access if it thinks you’re using a VPN.
In terms of paying for Torbox, Real-Debrid also blocks most payments from VPNs, so I’m not sure if any of the other Debrid services are better in that regard.
So a Torrentio alternative is necessary is what I’m understanding?
I went with Premiumize instead and no issues. Very straightforward.
It’s likely that some SurfShark IPs would work if you switch servers enough times, though Jackettio doesn’t block VPNs and could be used as an alternative to Torrentio.
If you don’t mind a $10 a year added cost to your Stremio setup, Debridio is essentially a drop-in replacement for Torrentio that doesn’t block VPNs and doesn’t stop working under high load (something that happened to Torrentio over the winter holidays).
Personally, I use Debridio, Jackettio, and Torrentio together for added reliability.
Not to put down Stremio, but it does end up being a lot of work sometimes when you could just pick from one of the dozens of websites and stream it from your laptop.
I know this is not a very slick setup, but then you only have to worry about the VPN.
I’ve thought about that too, but my concern is how to control the laptop from afar? Also I would like to set this up for my family so it needs to be user friendly and not technical at all. Or the least amount possible.
I tired all of this. All I’ll say is the solution ended up being Jellyfin. Expecting people to set up VPNs and understand links is not going to work with a family
With Jellyfin doesn’t everything need to be downloaded somewhere and then added to it?
I agree about the family stuff. I was hoping to just configure everything for them, which is why I was hoping Stremio or Nuvio would work. Because then the configuration carries over to the other devices once I sign into my account.
Strange, I use TorBox fine and pay the $5 a month but tbh Torrentio almost renders it pointless. I’d just use that. I don’t know anything about SurfShark.
Others are saying that Torrentio blocks VPNs, so I’m going to try Torrentio alternatives.
Could be the case, I’m not sure. I live outside the US in a country where I don’t need to use one. Maybe I’m ignorant but Streamio isn’t like direct torrenting—afaik you don’t need a VPN at all, unless you require one for your entire connection regardless.
