I would say is “what is Russia trying to do start WW3?” But then I have to stop myself because as a USA citizen my country has done and still does the same things. It just feels like the point of governments and society is so we can collectivly find better solutions to our problems not to topple other societies for our own gain.

You think Russia is toppling African countries for its own gains? It’s far more likely that it’s providing material support for anti-imperialist and decolonial movements in order to open up more fronts that the North Atlantic has to deal with.

You think Russia’s national self-interest isn’t served by anti-imperialist movements bogging down the North Atlantic?

Not directly, the way they are by inspiring coups in Africa. This isn’t Sankara, man. Russia is an empire engaging in recanchism. It’s asinine to think of them as an ally in anything anti authoritarian

You think a coup is anti-authoritarianism? A military coup? Are you daft? It’s an absolutely authoritarian response to centuries of authoritarian dominance. Russia is fighting the imperialist bloc, African nations are fighting the imperialist bloc. They are allies in the fight against imperialism, not against authoritarianism. Only liberals in the West analyze things along “authoritarian” lines.

Colonialism is terrible because it deprived people from their right to self determination.
But somehow, when Russia organizes a coup against a democratically elected government in the 21st century, this is totally fine. Oh, yogthos, the public display of your cognitive dissonance is a wonder to witness day after day :)

You’re stretching the definition of democratic especially if you’re extending that to all of these countries that have recently experienced coups.

Unironically the coup has given the people more self determination than being a Neo-colony. Democracy in those countries generally have just Europeans or Americans voting for the government instead of the people. And western Africa specifically has been exploited by France on record even after colonialism “ended”.

There is zero evidence for your conspiracy theory that Russia is organizing coups, while there is plenty of evidence that these are popular coups against western repression. You are a shameless propagandist, and one of the most dishonest people I’ve had the displeasure of interacting with on this site. Here’s what’s actually going on in Africa for people reading this thread https://peoplesdispatch.org/2023/09/02/niger-and-the-sahel-are-pushing-back-against-insecurity-exploitation-and-france/

          There is zero evidence

Did you miss the whole article at the top of this thread, and detailed analysis it refers to? I’ll make it even simpler for you and save you one click:

The onus of the proof is on you to debunk this paper as fallacious, and I’d love to read your take on it.
The rest of your comment is just insults and doesn’t bring anything to the argument.

It’s fascinating that Westerners can’t even fathom the idea of a colony trying to steer away from their colonisers. Do you really not see people living in those countries as people who can make their own decisions without need of consulting Europeans/Americans?

The paper makes vague claims without any substance. There is nothing to debunk there, and if you actually bothered reading the paper yourself you’d know that. I guess perhaps you just expected people not to bother reading it. The link I provided you above explains the situation as it actually is. Maybe go read it.

    Microsoft… Threat Analysis Center??

Since when does Microsoft cover geopolitics? Why is the software/video game company talking about coups in Africa?
