4·18 days agoI like their ColorVu night vision technology so was going to buy a bunch of these for my next home.
Same as what I have done here, I put the cameras in their own isolated VLAN with no internet and they only rule is to allow the NVR to access those cameras streams.

61·23 days agoIn the same fashion that cigarettes are no longer on display in stores this will absolutely have an effect. The supply chain will eventually evaporate so once stores are out of stock it’ll no longer be common place. Sure, they could be imported but stores that don’t comply won’t be common and will stick out easily.
31·2 months agoWhilst I don’t agree with the tactic, as like you said, if it happened to me or my family I’d be distraught. I don’t want to fight in a war.

2·2 months agoI like to run a hypervisor host as just that, a hypervisor host. The host being stable is important, and also reduce attack surface by only having it as that.
An LXC per service is somewhat overkill. A docker host running on LXC could likely run all the docker containers.
This rings true to me. I’m a westerner and I see how geo-politics is being handled and it really is a bunch of kids.
Not trying to do whataboutism, but its important to note that the insights on how Russian population are controlled with fear is echo’d throughout the world. US and its now inbred hatred for the word “communism”, and its forced relation with Russia, etc is dissapointing.
If we manage to survive the current crisis /and/ manage to de-escelate, it will take generations of peaceful teachings for large powers to actually calm down. I find this scenerio unlikely.
I dunno if any of these count, I just did a single Google search. Perhaps it’s western lies but there seemed to be story after story of “Putin says…”

Why blame the bot, it links you to the source of its output. It’s not like the bot has an opinion of its own.
Yeah, like I said, opinion is changing. But in relation to main strean media, and more importantly, government, we are close but not entirely there yet and the hesitation has been due to the decades old anti Semite struggle that washes over everything Israel.
General opinion is beginning to shift. But will it be enough to counter the “anything against Israel is anti Semite and will lead to redicule” sentiment?
62·3 months agoI’m not saying I don’t agree with the speculation. It’s just some things get passed around as facts, but it’s a conspiracy at most.
You speculate that. Don’t pass it on like you have proof. Or share the proof.
In 2010 I self hosted a Xen hypervisor and used it for everything I could. It was fun!
I had a drive failure in my main raid 5 array so bought a new disk. When it came to swap it out, I pulled the wrong disk.
It was hardware raid using an Adaptec card and the card threw the raid out and refused to bring it together again. I couldn’t afford recovery. I remember I just sat there, dumb founded, in disbelief. I went through all the stages of grief.
I was in the middle of a migration from OVH to Hetzner and it occurred at a time where I had yet to reconfigure remote backups.
I lost all my photos of our first child. Luckily some of them were digitised from developed physical media which we still had. But a lot was lost.
This was my lesson.
I now have veeam, proxmox backup server, backuppc and Borg. Backups are hosted in 2 online locations and a separate physical server elsewhere in the house.
Backups are super, SUPER important. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve logged into backuppc to restore a file or folder because I did a silly. And it’s always reassuring how easy it is to restore.
