I’ve always been happiest with xfce4-terminal, though I’m using Konsole currently until XFCE fully supports Wayland.
Way back when, I was more than happy with rxvt.

XFS on my server VMs and my laptops and desktops.
ZFS on my file server. I’d use it on my laptops and desktops too (and have done when I was using Xubuntu) but I’ve switched toFedora which doesn’t come with a way to easily install with ZFS and I don’t feel like jumping through hoops to get it done. And I can’t stand btrfs. I don’t know what it is about it, but I just don’t like it.
I’ve been using FolderSync (Pro in my case) for many years to sync files (automatically and/or on-demand) from my phone to my Linux server.
AMD GPU just works, no fussing about, get straight to fragging on Xonotic and Counter Strike
Unless you have a monitor that requires HDMI 2.1 to get full resolution/refresh. Then it only works partially.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Linux, and I’ve been using it on my desktops/laptops for almost 30 years at this point.
But there are still issues to deal with on a regular basis, same as Windows or OSX.
There’s a phrase you might give useful/insightful.
“Trust, but verify”
I use auto pay extensively so that if I forget (ADHD, yay) it still gets paid. But I do (try to) check every month that all the auto pay stuff did trigger properly.
I use proxmox mail gateway (PMG) for my homelab, configured to relay through my Gmail domain using smtp auth.
I’ve also used PMG at the enterprise level. Never had an issue with it.
It’s postfix underneath.
The main point was always portability, and the ability to run NetBSD on basically ANYTHING.
Y’all must be doing something wrong because HW raid has been hot garbage for at least 20years. I’ve been using software raid (mdadm, ZFS) since before 2000 and have never had a problem that could be attributed to the software raid itself, while I’ve had all kinds of horrible things go wrong with HW raid. And that holds true not just at home but professionally with enterprise level systems as a SysAdmin.
With the exception of the (now rare) bare metal windows server, or the most basic boot drive mirroring for VMware (with important datastores on NAS/SAN which are using software raid underneath, with at most some limited HW assisted accelerators) , hardly anyone has trusted hardware raid for decades.
Unless they get to the point of doing full strip and cavity searches, there’s no way to prevent someone from bringing in a Ziploc baggie full of soup.
Most people don’t do it on their main system. They either have a secondary/hobby system they are playing with, or do it in a VM.
Or they are dual/triple booting.
Donuts are great. Krispie Kreme are hot garbage though.
Well, like it or not, that’s the system we have right now, and so long as it is, by the time the main election comes around, the only options are a) violent overthrow, b) abstain from voting, or c) vote for the least bad option presented.
I don’t think we’re quite to the point yet where violent overthrow is necessary or justified.
Abstaining just means you accept whatever the outcome is, and thus have no leg to stand on when you don’t like the outcome.
In my mind that leaves option c as the only valid option, with the added requirement of working in between elections towards pushing for changes in the voting system.
I don’t pretend to be a fan of Biden. But despite his shortcomings, he’s still a damn sight better than Trump or RFK Jr. And nobody else running has a snowball’s chance in hell, and most of them are crackpots anyway. So until such a time as we have better options, I will continue to vote for the least bad option.
I’m pretty sure you can make them set the modem/router to bridge mode and run your own router. If it’s cable, you can also buy your own non-router cable modem, then use whatever router you like behind it.
There’s a long history of desperate people taking actions that they KNOW will result in their own death/destruction. What makes you think the powers that be in a rapidly failing Russia would never, ever take that chance?
War is indeed hell, my friend.
I prefer Hawkeye’s take: War is war and hell is hell…
