Why rely on google which is going down on reliability so quickly.
What we need is a GOOD lemmy based search engine. Which I think is entirely possible with current lemmy implementation.

Instance picking can be overwhelming. Making people just not even try it.
I do think a big challenge for the fediverse is how to ease that. And make it like e-mail where @whocares is not that important and it’s easy to actually have a custom domain/instance.
And, of course, to achieve this instance admins should be really be responsible with defederations and bans. And only use it as last resort, probably only because of legal reasons. Not because “I don’t like that instance admins main political thesis”. Probably that kind of blocks are better to be left to the user.
I’ll say that I find easier to exit vim that to exit nano.
I don’t know what ^ means. I just start pressing special keys until it doesn’t the thing
I’m pretty sure that telegrams do collaborate a lot when it comes to crimes.
Pretty sure that this is a copyright thing as always. I get several scams tries each month on WhatsApp and phone call. But they don’t care about people trying to steal actual money, they just care if I use telegram to watch a TV show without letting Disney murder my wife.
Oh no! Putin please do not take homophobes away from my country, oh no…
I would be so mad if suddenly homophobes went to Russia. They would really own me if they all decided to go to Putinland.
I also try to use the feminine as neutral instead of masculine. -Note: I’m Spanish so our language is heavily gendered- Mostly because I think that sounds better than the trend of using a newly introduced neutral gender that sounds terrible because Spanish language never had neutral.
Also if someone gets angry for that I have always the reply “now you know a little on how women fell during all story”
But still, neutral and inclusive language is still too new and far away from normalization to get mad at people on how they use it or not use. And if you are not deadnaming or deadgendering (is that a word?) you are not really hurting anyone.
Jumping to transphobic and misogynistic for not wanting to use inclusive language in some repo documentation is a big jump. He didn’t ever dead named anyone or refuse to use some person preferred pronoums. Its just not wanting to use inclusive language on documentation. Most, if not all, documentation I have ever read in my life don’t use the newest trend of inclusive language.
By they way accusations were written it seemed like devs were actually exposing hate speech or something like that.
Let’s not be like that, ok? At least I choose not be like that. You can destroy people lives with such accusations over basically nothing, be better.
I know that we are near Americans elections as it always makes the whole internet jumping, and throwing knives to find “the enemy”. But it could be as simple as inclusive language might be confusing for non english speakers, or might the trend change over time and it’s just a bother to keep updating with the lastest trend. Do you know how many versions of inclusive language did we have in my language? We started using ell@s, then ellxs, then ellos y ellas, then elles, then ellos, ellas y elles. It’s too volatile and little to be that mad over it. Specially when there’s people out there who truly hate anyone who is not a cis str male and is doing true hate speech over that.
If there’s more evidence of devs being evil, I will aknowledge it. But for such a little inconsequential thing (again it’s not even being against someone chosen pronoums, it’s just general documentation) I refuse to spread hate towards other human being.
Such accusations should really be followed by a source.
So?
For many small project is AI/copied images or no images at all.
When you do not have money you are not hiring a 2000€/month artist to do imagery for your website. You go online to copy something or nowadays you can use AI to wrap it up. It’s a tool at people’s disposition like any other.
And before anyone comes talking about copyright laws… shall I present them my 10 TB hard drive of pirated media? Human culture is to be shared, not gatekeeped.
I do break copyright law every single day of my life. And so far the only harm I’ve done is avoiding Disney a free pass to kill my wife.
Copyright law is bad. Sharing is caring.
Also I’ve make AI images with Stable Diffusion self hosted on my N100 server that takes way less energy than a normal computer being turned on for hours using Photoshop, so I saved the world by doing AI images instead of manually painting them.
Yes. The act of voting a comment up or down shouldn’t be much different to hitting reply to that comment.
Upvote/downvote systems do exist to overcome those “+1” “-1” posts on old forums. You are not voting for the legislative elections. You are just interacting with another person comment/post in a way that does not require writing. If post comments, are not anonymous, upvotes/downvotes shouldn’t be anonymous as well.
I sporadically use it. Sometimes it can pin point the specific algorithm I need that I didn’t know about.
Debian has been rock solid for me.
It’s not insecure. Quite the contrary debian repositories only include packages that has been through extensive testing and had been found secure and stable. And of course it regularly introduce security updates.
Can we give him a Olympic medal in hide and seek?
He sneaked out in front of everyone while being recorded live.
Windows 7 was windows peak.
I don’t know how they fucked up so bad since then.
Well. I know. Capitalism breed innovation, what they don’t say is that it breeds like the european monarchy.
-Jellyfin: for playing media that I totally own and surely did no obtain by any obscure way.
-Qbittorrent: for reasons completely unrelated to the previous one.
-Amule: see above.
-Synapse (matrix server): overly complex way to send myself notifications from the server to my phone.
-FreshRSS: to have a self hosted RSS feed server. Could I use an android app for the same thing? Sure. But it’s more fun and headache inducing this way.
-TubeArchivist: Because I want to offload some of that cost inducing bandwidth that is making those poor YouTube executives to keep pushing more aggressive ads on their platform. I’m just that nice.
-Caddy: because I’m just lazy.
-Crowdsec: Because I’m just paranoid.
It’s true that peer tube is the ugly duck of the fediverse right now. But I don’t think is about monetization.
On its core it’s true that is the most complex project as videos are resource heavy, and producing videos is time consuming.
I don’t think people does not make videos because lack of monetization but because lack of users. And there are little users because there are little content.
IMHO the UI and UX should be the smoothest of all fediverse because it need to put it as easy as it can to everyone to attract as many users or creators as possible.
Because, let’s be true, monetization (even you can already monetize if you want) is useless is there’s nobody watching anyway.
With caddy you can easily set up a local issued certificate for https. It would shine a nice warming on your browser unless you install the CA certificate on the computer you use to visit the site though.
https://caddyserver.com/docs/automatic-https#local-https
This is the easiest way I know how to do it. Caddy takes almost no configuration to get working.
I’m from Spain.
But I know that in Latin America they also used to change the title of some media sometimes. Funny enough they used different titles than in Spain.
For instance, the movie “White Chicks” in Spain is “Dos rubias de pelo en pecho” and in Latin America is “¿Y donde están las rubias?”.
Colonize is not the same as terraform.
Mars could be colonized without terraforming it. Closed habitats could be permanent thus providing a way of colonization.
Terraforming is a trouble without magnetosphere that’s true. But not impossible. As there are tech concepts on how it could be possible to shield mars atmosphere. And doesn’t seem imposible, just expensive and complex.
