Not just the speed limits that need changing, basically any sign with a distance on it too.

We and the US are just too stubborn to use the better units.
And expensive. Imagine the cost of changing the entire road network over to use metric.
I’d love to see it but the money could go on far better things.
1,500 dead and injured “every single day
No idea how many of those are dead vs injured, but to put that into context, the UK lost 457 people in Afghanistan in a 20 year period, and 179 in Iraq. 255 were lost in the Falklands.
I’d take the figures coming out of Ukraine with a pinch of salt but even if they’re half of what’s being said, these numbers are crazy. Such a crazy waste of life on all sides.
Ah right fair enough.
It is. Go into your account settings -> blocks and at the bottom is a section for blocking instances.
I’ve got Lemmy.ml in there. You’ll still see comments from their users and posts from users in other communities but you shouldn’t see any of their communities in your feed.
Why not block the entire instance in your settings?
I’d doubt the NHS would go for this. Our experience is that they heavily promote breastfeeding and seem to put as much resistance into using formula as possible.
This would seem at odds with their current approach of trying to get more people to breastfeed.
Has there ever been a single one that’s worked?
I know absolutely fuck all about satellites but I have to assume on something this old, that it’s extremely unlikely.
“It’s still relevant because whoever did move Skynet-1A did us few favours,” says space consultant Dr Stuart Eves.
"It’s now in what we call a ‘gravity well’ at 105 degrees West longitude, wandering backwards and forwards like a marble at the bottom of a bowl. And unfortunately this brings it close to other satellite traffic on a regular basis.
“Because it’s dead, the risk is it might bump into something, and because it’s ‘our’ satellite we’re still responsible for it,” he explains.
So basically, you can’t park there mate!
Such people aren’t fans of the sport, they go primarilly to cause trouble in a group.
I think that’s football fans in general to be honest.
Monthly Active Users (MAU) is probably the best metric for the health of Lemmy. A lot of these instances that are shutting down may be single-user instances or ones that people spun up just to mess about with them.
However, please donate to your instance if you can, it doesn’t have to be much :)
Going round harming or killing MPs that you disagree with wouldn’t bring any positive change at all. MPs on all sides and the public have absolutely no tolerance for it and would rally together against anyone doing this. You’d look like deranged extremists no matter your position.
It excuses the other sides to also use violence to achieve their aims and it would be utter carnage, making the government crack down extremely hard and probably bring in even more draconian police powers.
said she was misinterpreted and that she was seeking to support Palestinian resistance to occupation and does not condone the use of violence against civilians
“we are full of pride. We are really, really full of joy of what happened.”
I’m not really sure what she meant then if she’s being mis-interpretted. What happened was violence against civilians and they’re apparently full of pride and joy over it?
I think they’re referring to actually having a cap.
Also it’s a 50% increase not 150%.
Yeah I realise that, that’s why I thought about maybe the advertised salary might not necessarily be the truth and they do get decent compensation to reduce the chance of them getting compromised due to financial reasons.
A part of me thinks it’s low on purpose so the only candidates that apply are doing it for ideological reasons, and aren’t motivated by money (thus opening them up to risk of being bought by a foreign agency). Who knows, maybe it would be revealed their salary would quadruple after they get the job.
But the likelihood is that their budgets are low and can’t compete with the private sector.
Can’t disagree, every nation has the right to defend itself.
You’d also need a separate type of sign for kph, but one that still adhers to the current standard (white cirle with a red border and a black number). Or put a separate rectangular sign under it with “kph” to denote that the number in the circle is kph rather than mph.
The problem is that you can’t just replace one, you’d need to replace them all on the road due to the repeater signs. It would be confusing to see some say 60 and others 30 on the same stretch of road as some repeater signs have been replaced but others haven’t.
There’d also be the issue of cars understanding the signs with their sign recognition software, and drivers having to switch their digital spedo, as you usually only see one unit rather than both like on older anaologue speedos.
