I have a few computers that would probably work, what I would need is someone by my side to help me troubleshoot whatever wont work. You guys already made me switch to linux which I wouldnt even have considered a few years back lol. Super happy, but it’s always a challenge when something stops working. For example, after the last kernel update, I spent hours trying to get bluetooth to work again, and in the end buying a new adapter was the only thing that worked. But one day I will self-host too!

Maybe they started to include 16gb this year, but I can assure you that the basic model recently came with only 8gb ram. I’ve had dozens of students with those in the past couple of years. Right now, a basic M3 on Apple.ca is 1449$ CAD. .

Yes, I should specify. Macbook Air are perfectly capable of meeting all basic needs. I teach in music tech, we use software that can be asking (plugin, etc.) but nothing like serious video editing etc., and I’ve seen that several of these machines quickly struggle with heavy Pro-tool sessions. I’m not an Apple detractor on the hardware side (my m1 max is by far the best laptop I’ve ever had) but let’s be serious, 8gb of ram is 2012 standard, not 2024. Also I’m in Québec, I meant CAD dollars but it’s true that I might have exaggere a little bit lol.

Some of my student had brand new 2023 Macbook Air with an amazing 8gb ram!! Those 1.5k$ computers struggle to do anything serious lol.

Yep, same. My 2012 mb is on Mint and it still blows away most of the modern PC laptops sub 500$ . Pre 2016 intel MB are amazing machines.

In my field of work, I’m stuck with the Apple ecosystem anyway. So having the chance to run linux on my M1 for all my personnal project is awesome. Also, as much as I hate Apple, those computers are just absolute beast in term of processing power, battery and design.

This reminds me I still have a win 10 partition on my drive. Ye! Extra space to reclaim!

Actually he doesn’t. That’s what he should and kind of said he’ll do, but he can shape the cabinet the way he wants. But he’s no Trump so I dont think he will outrageously abuse this powers. I would’nt be surprised tho if decides to name a prime minister from his own party and offer some “key” ministy to the left, claiming the country is too divided to be managed by what he calls extreme parties. Or put in place some kind of technical government. Anyway you can’t really trust him.
