I’m drunk and jumping from their car!!! YOLO!!!
I hope I YOLO’d hard enough.

I guess it’s slightly better than the old “Horse and Sparrow” name which implies “Eat shit and like it”.
I ain’t apologizing for her now. My point is to work on the ones that are more easily hated by more people in order to raise awareness.
Try mentioning this to Tailor Swift fans and you’ll get immediately crucified. We should normalize the idea that THERE ARE NO ETHICAL BILLIONAIRES. Period.
While I agree with your sentiment, I don’t think she’s the place to start bitching. She’s one of the “better” ones in that she’s not out here actively hunting the poor on an island somewhere. You start with folks like Musk, Bezos, and Murdoch, and by shining a light on the billionaires that are stealing the wealth and resources of entire countries but staying out of the limelight by keeping their fucking mouths shut. Then we start moving towards Swift. Otherwise the message will just get drowned out by fans.
Somebody was wearing their gargantuan, steel ovaries on the outside.
I shot a message to a colleague who is still in IT (I’m into other shit these days) and he says you’re correct. IOS doesn’t allow for this. The IT department running Mobile Device Management would have to set up Mobile App Management (MAM) on their side. So it’s possible that they only get access to those apps without giving them access to the whole device but a lot of lazy departments won’t do it.
I get it, and I don’t blame anyone for that choice. I made mine based on utility, convenience, and knowledge of the tool for me. I don’t care how convenient it makes things for work. They’ll give me a phone if it’s that convenient for them. But I’m not qualified to make that decision for anyone else.
Because they can only see, install, or wipe things inside the work profile. It’s all sandboxed.
Quick edit: This is for Android. I have no idea about iPhones.
Or work profiles on BYODs
I really don’t mind these days as long as they have a MDM so I can have it on a separate profile, but without that I’m totally with you.
Defederation makes it so that figuring out which instance to sign up with in order to see your friends and local businesses (since we’re talking about vs Facebook instead of Twitter or Reddit) would be a nightmare for the average person.
I have multiple accounts on some services trying to get to everything I want to see. I mostly gave up on Pixelfed. My main Mastodon account can see people on other instances but has problems seeing their posts. And I’m absolutely not willing to troubleshoot it because between work, a social life, and other hobbies I just don’t have the time or give a shit.
I like the fediverse. I’m here. I use it. But I’m only going to use what’s convenient and I promise that I have more patience than the average non tech person who wants to sign up using a linked Gmail account and see all the things they expect to see without having to think about it.
Edit: I think my brain skipped the last two sentences in that comment. I just sat here and bitched about something that was already mentioned. I have brought nothing to this discussion and have brought shame upon my house.
I think there’s a time between “This thing is possible I guess” and “you’re already fucked” that I’d like to hear about things.
Asking the real questions here. I’ve got a ninja and I’m pretty sure there’s no way I could puree bones.
Get out of here with your science, don’t nobody believe that. They were a foot and a half tall and had magical powers.
Seriously though, thank you for the summary of the important info. It’s much appreciated.
Or at least make up a hurtful song about the nonce. They have songs for rival sports teams and individual players. If they start singing about him diddling kids on the world stage it will embarrass him and the Olympics.
Vatican City? Please, please be Vatican City.
(I know it isn’t)
The post above this one in All for me is the one about a guy inviting women back to his place for delicious stew. Now I want to know what the secret ingredient is.
Something I didn’t think about but has since come to my attention (group chat is getting spicy) is that there are a lot of mid level IT folks on salary who are getting the absolute dog shit worked out of them right now without seeing an extra dime. So the costs are beyond monetary.
For businesses, a lot of them are hiring IT companies (consultants, MSPs, VARs, and whoever the hell else they can get) at a couple to a few hundred bucks an hour per person to get boots on the ground to fix it. Some of them have everyone below the C levels with any sort of technical background doing entry level work so there’s also lost opportunity cost.
I was in that industry for a long time and still have a lot of colleagues there. There’s a guy I know making almost $200k/yr out there at desks trying to help fix it. He moved into an SRE role years ago so that’s languishing this week while he’s going desk to desk and office to office with support staff and IT contractors.
At least two large companies have an API where they’re paying for a pile of compute and currently have a small fraction of use. Companies are paying to use those APIs but can’t.
I don’t know if there’s a good way to actually figure out how much this is costing because there are so many variables. But you can bet there are a few people at the top funneling that money directly to themselves, never to be seen again.
This is a HUGE reason. I didn’t know when I first signed up for Lemmy that I was on what is essentially a tankie instance. I didn’t know when I signed up for Pixelfed that I wasn’t going to be able to see shit because the first server I signed up for wasn’t really federated with anyone and I’ve mostly given up on it. I still can’t see a bunch of stuff on Mastodon without switching through several accounts with no rhyme or reason.
I’ve said before that I obviously like it here because I’m using the services, but it’s not easy. Most people don’t know about the fediverse, and most of those that do want to be passive about maintaining their social media. Most of the fediverse is built for nerds.
