Things that are out of the ordinary make it into the headlines. This is a German citizen captured by Hamas during their invasion of Israel. Very out of the ordinary. No need to bring race into it.

I think Russian generals would mutiny before signing a death wish for their country by launching a nuke.
Either way, this war has already been a massive failure for russia. They were planning to take Kyiv in a week, annex some territory, and possibly install a puppet government before going back to business as usual.
If the war ended today with a Russian victory, it would be a pyrrhic victory for them. I feel like anything short of that will end with the overthrow of Putin. Their best chance of success is to keep meddling with the west in an attempt to sabotage Ukraine’s support.
Those are all democracies/republics, at least on paper.
Supporting free and democratic Ukraine is preferable to letting fascist Russia become neighbors with NATO.
Oof, that’ll teach me to briefly skim a source before posting. I wasn’t going to blame anyone, because I clearly don’t know enough about the situation. But thanks for putting words in my mouth.
You’re putting words in my mouth. I was addressing ksynwa’s comment, which was honestly a bit tangential and not entirely related to Ukraine. Offering aid is not occupation, and it’s a bit silly that you would imply that.
It’s true. Whether you agree with the actions of the US abroad or not, the US did legitimately try to install a free and fair democratic government in Afghanistan. And it was in place for 20 years - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_in_Afghanistan.
Afghanistan was democratic during US occupation. Unfortunately, that was overthrown by the taliban when the US pulled out.
Keep the propaganda coming, troll. Your comments are shallow and not representative of reality.
Russia is waging war. The US wants to support a free democratic country that borders NATO over a fascist invading country that’s an adversary of NATO.
Probably did it on purpose to get out of the fight.
I thought that happened in futurama
It’s an emotional issue for many Americans, as so much of our lifestyle is based on ready and abundant access to fossil fuels. I would say many are currently in the first stage of grief, “denial”.
No one is too big too fail. There just needs to be a better service, which right now there definitely is not.
A Canadian news site posting an article about a Canadian citizen killed in another country seems reasonable to me.
