Put it simply I just hate ads. Anything that puts in ads is terrible. Including Sync for Lemmy who seems to have completely missed the point of getting the hell away from Reddit.
The next terrible thing is automatically generated content and bots, but I guess those are also really just ads.
In general I disagree with anything that makes any user more special than another user. Personally I’d even prefer mods and admins to be anonymous. It tends to lead to things being done or said in order to gain popularity rather than being genuine.
Lemmy can certainly use some polishing, but I hope it never goes too far. Especially when it comes to content algorithms. That is more of an anti-feature to me whos only goal is to generate revenue. Seeing as how Lemmy is a not a business I see no need for such a thing. Users get what they search for and nothing else.
I don’t care much for the interoperability between Mastodon and Lemmy, but having more users from Mastodon come to Lemmy sounds good to me.

I’ve read this post and all the comments. It is clear their intention is too cause as much trouble as possible for other instances. What purpose does it serve to let them do it until everyone gets tired of it and then defederate? Might as well get ahead of it and never start.
I don’t mean to make a single website do all of those things. I mean in the sense of making a federated website protocol that allows you to start an instance for whatever kind of thing you want. Maybe it wouldn’t work, but it would save a lot of time on re-inventing the wheel every time you wanted a new type of tracking site.
wouldn’t it make more sense to make a more generic federated list site that could be used for any category of things you wanted?
I like BoomWyrm, but they are so many duplicate books because there are so many different published versions of a book. I think these need to be combined somehow. If people really want to choose the cover of the exact book they read maybe you could be able to choose your cover.
What incentive is there to have a ton of users registered to a particular instance?
Nice work. There is just something seriously wrong with some people. Working retail in general is a nightmare. Both because of co-workers and customers.
That isn’t a good justification to me. If it’s ok for you then it’s ok for the rest of the world too. You might believe ads aren’t bad and that’s fine. At least we can agree to disagree on that as our opinions aren’t reconcilable. If your app can’t exist without ads then I don’t believe it should exist at all. Or any other software in the world.
