Hindsight is 20/20, after all.
Hindsight is 20/20, after all.
Exactly. I have a friend who was going through it, even considered offing herself, but in the end she kept going and came out on the other side better and more mature than ever.
It took years, but she’s now in a much better position, stable, and learned valuable life lessons.
She would say she was just surviving, but the desire to keep enduring takes strength, and to those of us who have never been tested like that, it is absolutely, 100% strength of character and will.
We’re comparing China and the USA. That’s the topic.
There’s a reason Florida currently has thousands of vacancies in teaching positions and is one of the bottom 10 states in terms of education.
Teachers are still free to do what they want and express their opinions (i.e., staying and risking prison, leaving the state, not working as a teacher, being politically active, teaching outside the classroom).
Book burning and expressing your opinion are protected rights. It’s absolutely embarrassing that the law exists, but the law will be challenged in court.
Discourse doesn’t happen in China. If the government wanted, you just go to prison and they throw the key away. That’s if you’re not killed outright. No discussion, no politics, nothing.
The USA has freedom. China does not.
EDIT - Ironically, even you and I discussing this online is forbidden in China. You’re not allowed to express your disgust with problems of the Chinese government or state.
Nah. That’s a strawman argument there. Killing someone is not equivalent to saying something offensive or burning books.
Of course they can. They might get in trouble or even fired. But they can still say whatever they want. They are also protesting on both sides of it, too, as is the right. The great American discourse.
Well, book burning is kinda dumb because most of them, if not all, are already digitized. It’s a statement at this point in time. While really stupid and backwards, expression is still a right and freedom that Americans enjoy.
This is unlike other countries where you can be thrown in jail for something even lesser and never have a recourse or trial.
And that makes the image being censored ‘okay’?
There are definitely conditions and reasons to do drug holidays with medications. They are recommended, I know this.
For sure, with everything, it’s different for everyone. And everyone’s needs need to be catered.
Oh bipolar meds aren’t the same as adhd stims, totally different, you’re absolutely right.
We do take med holidays for other conditions.
Taking a holiday from stimulant adhd meds allows our body to come down to “normal” chemical levels again so that when we really need to take it, the effect from the meds is better.
Im not your doctor but maybe non-stim might work better? Or every other day dose timing with extended release formulas. There are ways to get the meds you need and live normally. No need to feel like some crazy animal for weeks on end.
Is Kim running low on food again? I feel I read something about a missile being fired every other week.
Still getting used to Lemmy! I’m not getting notifications about when I’m being responded to. I dunno.
The “good guy with a gun” thing is absolutely hard to swallow, I can agree with that. But you must concede that if it wasn’t true, why would the President and most politicians making gun laws have a security detail with guys that are armed with guns? Why would the police carry guns? Why do banks have security guards that carry guns?
It’s also a weird argument to say that I have a 1/100 chance of being rescued by a guy with gun Vs being killed.
So the answer to defending yourself or others from the guy with the knife is what? Wait for someone else, like Uvalde? Be a meat shield? Even if it’s 1 out of 100, I would rather not wait to be hurt.
Devil’s advocate here, maybe he would’ve been stopped by a teacher with a gun before he got to even 1.
EDIT - or someone. If you were personally there with the ability to stop a madman with a knife and defend a child, are you saying you wouldn’t use that power to stop him? I’m not talking anybody else here, I’m talking you, the reader.
EDIT2 - so what’s the answer to this situation? I want to hear the ideas of those downvoting. Discourse is the opportunity, not a wall.
