The problem is profits is what drives innovation, research and development. Without the incentive to improve your own situation you are not motivated to innovate and improve the life of everyone. That’s why it is doomed to fail.
Universities and research institutes are not profit driven. They do most of the innovating. Patenting someone else’s invention and then selling it for a profit isn’t innovation.
Obviously you don’t know how research funding works. But worst, you don’t know what motivates people to work hard to earn a research position.
