    You mentioned one difference that I want to highlight. For digital communications there is a need to actively manage your availability. Nothing like going for water and spontaneously meeting someone. A general chat with persistent messages is also no exact replacement, then you can’t choose the intended recipients without creating a specialized group chat.

    It is also more difficult to read body language if you can at most see a face and in text chats you are missing vocal cues as well. If you are basing your trust on information you got that way, it is more difficult to form impressions of people in a remote setting.
