    the problem here is you suppose people can’t and won’t be hypocrites, or simply ignorant.

    They will and are. Politics makes more sense when you realize that it’s largely emotional rhetoric and people respond emotionally to it. Everything is about them feeling their feels. whether that is based on ‘social values’ or ‘political goals’ is irrelevant, and both are just forms of rhetoric.

    the interesting problem is when you confront groups with real world problems that require real world solutions, rather than rhetorical social value rhetoric. like, what specific policy should you support or try to make into law?
