    Yes, although the donations are usually rather material than financial. In the Russians military the soldiers must buy the bulk of their own ammo with their own money, and most of the food, vehicles and fuel come from private donors.

    You put it well: it’s basically a charity.

      It’s not charity Russia is being back armies that had soliders that could afford to go to war like knights. Chivalry is alive and well in Russia /s.
