It’s the difference between a fire-cracker going off near you vs clasping your hand around it. The former is loud and fun, the latter will blow your fingers off. They did that here, but with a grenade!
When I was about 9, I taped a firecracker to a Lego minifig. I saw a car coming right when I was trying to light it, so I clenched it, not knowing it had lit. One second later I felt it explode in my hand. Luckily it was a very tiny firecracker, and only left me with some scorch marks and temporary numbness. Of course, it did nothing to the Lego.
