Two gunmen shot up a settlement and then started exchanging fire with an IDF unit and the child was shot in the crossfire. This is awful, but has nothing to do with Palestine being an independent nation since this happened in the west bank, not the Gaza strip, which as I understand it, are different.

But there’s no mention of this at all when you’re decrying Israeli violence. I got that impression too, and the fediverse has lost a lot of its shine recently. People are rushing to say that they support “both sides” and Israel can defend itself… but just not in any way that would be able to stop another attack like October’s from happening. It feels like a lot of people just want to side with Hamas, but don’t want to actually say that out loud.

Ok, I have to ask. How would you apply this to any other conflict. For example the Allies fighting against Germany. Where did the German civilians fall in the spectrum of evil. Was fighting Germany justified, knowing that German civilians might suffer? If so, how is this situation different?

That’s fair. nixOS can be savage. But I think it’s also helpful for a beginner since you can’t break it. A beginner is much more likely to break their system than an expert.

nixOS , because it’s a completely atomic distribution, like a docker container OS style. You define the state of the system in a configuration file, which can even control the kernel, and you can switch to an older configuration file in any reboot. It’s more of a pain than the others, but it works ok out of the box and when you fix something it stays fixed so you’ll never end up in a situation where something breaks and you can’t fix it.

Also, all the packages bring their own versions of their own libraries and directly link to them so they’ll never break during upgrades, but conversely a lot of Linux installers that try to link to system libraries won’t work.

In your example neither Pakistan or India are on America’s side, so it’s not reasonable to expect loyalty. Now consider this, what would make America turn on another western democracy like the UK, France, Australia or Canada. It would take a lot.

Seems like normally consequences for acts at the global level are more based on geopolitical considerations than moral considerations. I could imagine if India assassinated a US citizen the intelligence would have just been buried and nobody would have ever heard about it so the US could contribute building up the India relationship to use against China.

Which I’ve always had trouble with, because if you know that someone is immoral, then why are you trusting that they’re going to care about your relationship with them?

I might agree with you if the boards themselves were disposable. If a high end macbook were $300 then sure, just get a new one. But they’re $2000 or more just for an “ok” model. At that price they should be repairable.

I think people’s anger stems from the fact that it wouldn’t be hard for laptops to be repairable and in fact Apple’s putting in additional roadblocks over time to make repairing harder. At the very least, having broken components be removable would do a lot for hardware lifespan.

I doubt the difference in performance is that significant. If it was 50% faster then sure. But odds are it’s something like 3% speed difference. Same for the storage, I doubt that apple’s proprietary interface is that much faster than a regular high quality nvme, definitely not enough to justify the multiple that they’re charging for it compared to an off-the-shelf nvme.

Most people don’t know that Linux even exists and Mac usage is something like 2%. Those are effectively rounding errors. A lot of people would switch away from Windows, but many might not.

Also, I can predict exactly how it’s going to work, because I’ve been seeing the same trend. A new forced Windows update will just make it so that storage no longer connects because it’s “unsafe”.

I paid approx $700 for a i5 with a Geforce 3050 and a 144hz screen. The RAM was weak but it was upgrade able so I got it up to 40GB, about $800 all up. It’s an MSI.

The only downside is that it’s such a pain to take apart and it’s put together in a way where there’s a very real chance of doing permanent damage when taking off the cover, since the case actually wraps around the ports and makes the motherboard bend when you apply any pressure to it. It came with 8GB of RAM out of the box, so basically unusable without the upgrade; still, I’m very happy with it atm.

I love the idea of Framework and I want to get one, but the price is multiple times of what I paid for my current machine… and this is better than the Framework in several ways. I’m hoping that a few of the Frameworks make it onto the second hand market and I’ll buy one there. The idea of a laptop that’s easy to replace and lasts forever is brilliant though, and I hope they take off.
