Use WSL on the laptop for ssh, that’s actually a VM. VM separation should work correctly, or we have a much bigger problem. Just reset WSL, everything should be wiped related to the ssh sessions. Work IT would maybe allow that.

One of them is a laptop, why ssh to the server isn’t an option? Set up tmux on the server so it always connects to the same session, so you can just continue where you left last time. If you need desktop support, rdp in gnome works really well.

E.g if you connect with this command, and tmux is installed on the server, it will start a new session named “main”. If a session with that name exists it will connect to that:

ssh -t pi@192.168.1.2 tmux new-session -A -s main

Add something to .bashrc on the server to always do the same if you work on that phisically:

Actually that’s acceptable, and does not violate GPL, they just expected that noone will show up in their sweatshop. GPL does not define how you should make the source available.

Since I stopped using mainstream socialmedia I can’t follow musicians I’m interested in. Some have a bandcamp page and rss works there, but they just upload their albums there, nothing else. At least I get notified about new releases. I tried to follow facebook and instagram pages via rss-bridge, but it’s not working for years now. My selfhosted bibliogram sometimes work, but it’s unmaintained so it will die at some point if instagram changes something. (I just found there is a maintained fork, yess) My ip usually gets blocked, so I get all posts once a week only in batch.

So I’m interested, unfortunately none of them enabled fedi integration yet, (afaik it’s a settings for them in threads) so I’m waiting when they will enable it for everyone.

I wanted to vote against defederation (edit: i was offline that week or something, I can see I didn’t vote) I liked on this instance that we are treated as adults, and the admin let us decide what we want to see. You can block instances if you want. Defederating with Threads even before we can see how it would work goes against this philosophy.

Afaik there is no way to see anything from threads on lemmy yet, connection with mastodon like services work only, so we are again debating about a not yet existing thing.

If it will work between threads and lemmy I will look for another instance where I can devide what I want to see.

Buy a better case for the mobo. I modded once an mITX motherboard to an ancient HP Proliant microserver case, it’s not that hard. Mobos like this doesn’t have standard screw distances, but you don’t have to secure all screws in a ghetto server. 2 screws and some padding is enough, with 3 screws you are overengineering.

You have a sata port. You have to use an external power supply for that. Or maybe one of the pins next to it can supply the required voltage, you can use a multimeter to figure it out if you are brave. I guess the white one labeled PWR should be supply some volts. Without any more knowledge I would guess at least one of them is an mPCIe. Having 2 sata ports and an 2 mSATA next to it would be strange, they could use the mPCIe for a 3G modem or wifi, it would make more sense in a thin client like this.

Maybe stability is not a frequent issue nowadays, and they need the new kernel to support new hardware more quickly?

E.g. I can imagine a new linux friendly laptop can’t be sold with ubuntu preinstalled because the old kernel is not supporting some parts yet, but it’s already merged upstream. Or something like that.

Search for “vfio single gpu”, It’s possible, but it has drawbacks. Iirc you have to run everything as root or something like that.

Yes that is another option. I know 7zip works there, win11 is mostly the same as win7 under the hood, but I would install a supported frontend instead of fiddling with the registry, tweaks like that can break after updates

I don’t use windows personally, just set it up for others. I don’t care enough to tweak the registry for them, if there are more convenient solutions

File explorer’s built in archiver is still lagging behind, while it’s mostly usable, last time I tried to open a password protected rar, and it didn’t show a pw dialog just failed silently. 7zip opened it correctly

Caldav is a protocol to sync tasks and calendar events. Kanban is a way to sort/display tasks. The to things are orthogonal.

I used nextcloud deck, a kanban board. Lo and behold, it uses calendar tasks under the hood, and you can sync them with caldav. Obviously you loose some features from the kanban board, but it’s a perfect middleground if you are nit a heavy kanban user.
