Came here to say this. Dude routinely misgenders and deadnames his daughter and claims that she died from “the woke mind virus”, then he turns around and tries to pull this shit.

I mean… the article says the seller was located in China and using a pseudonym to communicate over Telegram and accepting payments in cryptocurrency. All to ship precursor chemicals in packages disguised as electronics. I wouldn’t exactly be surprised if the seller didn’t have a return policy.
Yeah. Good job dealing with Nordic Nazis, government, now please also take care of the American ones.
I’m not a conspiracy theorist or suggesting that there’s any connection between these events, but does anyone else find it kind of nuts how two notable government officials have died in aviation accidents this year?
Sure, to an extent. ActivityPub is an independent protocol not controlled by lemmy or any lemmy devs, so there’s a layer of protection there. This is also a trick that can only be pulled once, because any other instances would likely defederate in response and ML would render itself irreparably untrustworthy. I don’t mean to downplay your concerns as they are valid, but I also don’t think it’s an existential threat.
I don’t agree with the “hiding the problem” notion because different instances are independently operated, and defederation is the by-design way to “fix” malignant instances (see the LW defed of hexbear and lemmygrad for exactly this kind of behavior).
As for the whole system not being safe, I’d also disagree on that point as the entire lemmy server code is licensed under a copyleft license which allows anyone with a copy of the code to modify and distribute it. Ergo, hard forking lemmy is possible. Based on the github page, over 800 individuals already have forks of the server code. Any one of them, group of them, or some other individuals entirely, could pick up lemmy development and run with it if need be.
As you say OP, the solution here is to use the fediverse model as intended and use different instances/communities. It sucks because it fragments the community, but that’s the way it is. I’ve long held the opinion that I’m grateful to the lemmy developers for building this whole thing that we all get to enjoy, but their approach to administering an instance is reprehensible and actively damaging to the relatively free and open exchange of ideas that should happen on the fediverse.
Sounds like reddit. They started banning blocks of VPN IPs after they locked down their API (presumably to prevent screen scraping). If you really want to visit, proton stealth protocol is able to get through sometimes, and old.reddit seems to get through all of the time.
Perhaps I’m more sensitive to tramadol, because for me it does slightly dull pain, but also makes me profoundly drowsy and itchy. I took it for one day after being prescribed and decided that tylenol was a better option.
Yeah… that’s insane. I recently had surgery and was administered a small dose of fentanyl via IV while being held in post-op, I was also prescribed tramadol for pain management afterwards. Both drugs turned me into a zombie on their own. I can’t imagine mixing both, and also layering on weed, as a recreational substance.
A lot of those criticisms are valid but I feel like the average observer wouldn’t pick out those details when viewing the drawings as a whole. In that sense, the art isn’t spectacular but it achieves what it is intended to IMO.
I don’t think you’re totally wrong but I know that WhatsApp, and Instagram to a lesser degree, are the primary means of communication for a massive number of people worldwide. I agree that it’s a problem for one organization to have that much of a critical mass insofar as being able to communicate with your friends and family effectively, but at the same time it’s not really feasible to try to uproot all of your loved ones and mass migrate to another service.
Yeah. That’s why I was giving Attal kudos here. As an American I really wish that the Democrats would take the same stance publicly. Are Democrats here not left enough? Sure, that’s valid. But they’re the only one of two major parties that largely respects the rule of law and isn’t trying to drag us into a fascist hellscape. The time for the kid gloves to come off was years ago, yet here they are still trying to engage Republicans in good faith arguments.
Ah fair point, I didn’t read the full article or summary 😅 - my comment has been updated to reflect that.
I know nothing of Macron’s policies Attal’s politics, but credit where credit is due. Someone needs to call out these right wing nutjobs cropping up across western democracies.
Site’s finished boss!
Hey it’s all good dude, everyone makes mistakes. I appreciate the follow-up comment and constructive discussion.
I’m no expert on French politicians, but a very quick wiki/google search reveals that the former prime minister, Élisabeth Borne was implied to be a lesbian by a French publication that she later sued, denying their assertions. I would hardly call that “openly gay” and it’s pretty scummy of that publisher to invade someone’s personal life like that.
As for the comment on US journalists, the BBC was also reporting Gabriel Attal’s appointment using the language “openly gay” as early as 06:03 UTC.
As an American I have plenty of bones to pick with the media here, but your comment comes across as ill-informed, bashing on American journalists just because rather than for any substantiated reason.
Sure, but would it kill them to spice things up every once in a while?
