I disagree, this flip-flop logic is what drags down the movement and allows “no billionaires except the ones I like” idea to poison the public discourse. If we collectively stick to a unified view we have much more power in changing things.

The point is that there is no “better ones”. The billionaire should not be socially acceptable concept ever. Full stop.
Why is “death for billionaires” so taboo though? Clearly they’re damaging our society much more than a single murderer or marijuana carrier and yet we have no problem accepting that these people should be punished socially but if you mention guillotines for billionaires then suddenly you’re an extremist.
Try mentioning this to Tailor Swift fans and you’ll get immediately crucified. We should normalize the idea that THERE ARE NO ETHICAL BILLIONAIRES. Period.
It’s a staggering amount of wealth that allows to do shit like this and why do we tolerate this is will be eternally confusing to me.
Not only is this an issue of equality but it’s a social issue as well. People stop taking public responsibility issues like pollution or climate change seriously because “if private jets are legal then why should I do anything?”.
Good, last time I was in Osaka the urban cyclists were plenty dangerous even without texting. Japan doesn’t have a great cycling infrastructure and definitely needs more safety rules because of it.
Imagine going into an economical agreement with Russia lmao
considering the track record they should start putting “courts” in quotes when discussing Russia.
cult, sect, religion — all the same thing in practical reality tbh
From what I can tell is that japanese baseline is quite conservative so all parties are quite different from what we would have under the same name in the west. Though, they are definitely not left like the name would imply.
For example, LDP is known for it’s “Japan, Inc.” policy which advocates for close ties between the government and business. LDP also supports for “traditional family values and social order” which in all fairness is a must for every major party in Japan.
In the west we’d probably refer them as centrists or slightly-right of center.
Komeito on the other hand is a much more intersting party which is a Buddhist pacifist party with conservative but socialist ideologies. TBH I fail to find a western equivelent reading through their wiki but as someone who spent some time in Japan as a foreigner their policy against kafka-esque beraucracy in Japan make me like them them at least a little bit.
I know this might be difficult for some people, but it is absolutely possible to be critical of both sides in a conflict
Seems like we’re in agreement here but somehow Lemmy even when Israel is put against Iran which is straight up a comic book evil level regime Israel are the bad guys?
This logic that “X is bad and they can’t do any good things and are always in the wrong” is bigotry and prejudice i.e. anti-semitism. You can say Israel is evil and agree that Israel is in the right in this particular conflict, those two things don’t cancel each other out.
I swear Lemmy is turning anti-semitist. Clearly Israel is the good guys in this Israel vs Iran conflict and yet anything that suggests this is being down voted to hell. Isn’t that crazy?
Iran is rules by a purely evil Islamic State regime and somehow it’s not OK to enjoy their down fall?
Frankly, I’m tired of every reddit alternative being captured by these extremist bafoons.
Iran is the “find out” stages now. Weirdly enough Iranians actually welcome Israeli strikes. If they couldnt overthrow the brutal Islamic State regime then maybe a bit of Israeli rockets can lend a hand.
Yes, just because they do something right does not dismiss the low level premise that they are a state sponsored propaganda machine. Qatar has no laws to protect press from the government. There’s zero press freedom and Al Jazeera will do everything Qatar tells them to and can’t even talk about it. Isn’t that crazy?
This premise makes everything Al Jazeera does untrustworthy and needs to be verified by more trust worthy institutions.
I don’t get it how is it so hard to understand that? That’s the most basic of concepts and the irony that people defend this on a decentralized network is just incredibly poetic if not sad.
it’s all about introducing enough friction. If it takes house moms to click more than 3 buttons they might actually start getting upset and care.
Not my biases but common sense
definitely more than a “press instution” based in the one of the most oppressive countries in the world. duh.
you forgot the part where Al Jazeera is Qatar based organization with clear propaganda agenda. Do you trust Russia Today as well? I wouldn’t trust any organization based in Qatar knowing their track record of human rights abuses.
it’s an untrustworhy news organization that at the very least fails to do an appropriate amount of background check and at most supports and promotes terrorism. Also it’s based in Qatar. Let that fucking sink in for a second.
Not sure what’s your point. Both Israel’s government and Al Jazeera can be evil. It’s not a zero-sum game.
Reddit 100% was censoring and shadow banning any kbin or lemmy mentions.
I wouldn’t even be surprised if reddit actively promoted or even creates negative comments. There was a precedent of people abandoning Digg so they were clearly very aware and afraid.
At the end of the day it’s impossible to tell with these incredibly opaque networks. It’s even hard to confirm comment visibility as Reddit employs data fudging and shadow banning.
Just another reminder that nothing any closed source social media says should be trusted, ever.
