  • I had hoped that my last sentence showed my post was clearly in jest. The factual information was just needed to set up the joke. Neither hostility nor condescension was applied.

In fact, the avid reader might catch that I have implied myself in the group of people causing OP’s annoying trouble with light-clothed females since I too am here - presumably a tech nerd like OP and meddling with the algorithms affecting him by clicking on unsavory content.

  • Well that’s just not how recommendation algorithms work. A part of it will be content based, directly related to what the user can be associated with.

However, the largest part is collaboration based filtering of content. That means, our user is put in a group based on his other preferences, let’s assume nerdy tech stuff, and then is shown content that he has not liked yet but his group of peers has, meaning he could probably like it too.

In other words - he’s not the one in fault here, YOU are (you pretty much have to be nerdy tech folks to be here).

Please, could everyone here stop clicking on this stuff so that OP don’t have to be associated with your filthy behavior, thank you.

  • Not an answer to OP; I use iCloud, but I still want my own, external backup of that and have found some good solutions.

I previously used icloudpd which I run from docker and that synced all files to a NAS from where I took backups. It works great and I highly recommended.

However, I recently turned on Advanced Data Protection on iCloud, which disables the API icloudpd relied upon, so now I’m using osxphotos instead. It works just as good.

You’ll have to turn on downloading all originals to your Mac for this to work. Personally I had to buy an external disk and move the photo library on my Mac mini server to it to have enough storage.

  • Summary:

•Dirty wounds from injuries caused by explosions and metal fragments come into contact with environmental bacteria, dust and soil which harbor drug resistant bacteria. The toxic metals from explosives can also promote the development and spread of drug resistance in bacteria.

•The overwhelmed healthcare system has broken infection control measures, lack of laboratory testing and heavy use of broad-spectrum antibiotics to keep injured people alive. This promotes the growth and spread of drug resistant bacteria.

•As injured people are evacuated and move through different healthcare facilities, they can pick up and spread multi-drug resistant infections caused by nosocomial bacteria that exist in hospitals.

•A previous study found that bacteria isolated from Ukrainian military hospitals had much higher rates of antibiotic resistance compared to civilian hospitals in Ukraine and Europe. This indicates that the conditions of war are exacerbating the problem.

•The case of the Ukrainian soldier with 6 extensively drug resistant bacterial infections highlights the increased risk of drug resistant infections due to the conflict in Ukraine. Healthcare providers need to implement proper infection control to prevent the spread of these bacteria.

This was reported on in Norway too, which accepts injured Ukrainian soldiers to help with longer term treatment.

Norwegian hospitals just expects any injured soldier to be infected with multi-resistant bacteria and isolated them immediately according to strict protocols. And that’s perhaps the most important step in avoiding spread that treatment in Ukraine just has no chance to do during war time.

  • My take today after observing for some weeks, is that Lemmy fills all MY needs. Reddit will probably not die. Threads seems to be a hit.

I just don’t care enough. Yeah, I wish everyone stopped using Reddit and Meta apps, but Lemmy is certainly not ready for 500 million new users right now anyway, and if they were, moderation would just be hell again.

I haven’t used Reddit since Apollo shut down unless it’s the only place still I can get in touch with some business, and I’ve blocked Threads on my network and devices.

I’m very happy with this. It would be nice if some cool, open source, free, tolerant and loving network would pop up to save 14-18 year olds and our next generation from manipulative commercial SoMe, but honestly Lemmy would probably never be that.

My only concern currently is that lemmy.world want to allow Threads for the time being while I see absolutely nothing to be gained from that.
