Because every step of the way, they need a flock of MBAs to figure out the answer to the question “How do we make money off of this?”

I’d assume that any news that is to the right of “left of center” doesn’t get much visibility on Lemmy. Maybe Lemmygrad or Exploding Heads are a different story, but I figure they’d sooner ban the bot in far-right communities than let it highlight biases.
In Chinese it’s literally just the “South Sea” (南海), so I am not even sure who first stuck “China” on the name. I am guessing probably explorers from other countries who couldn’t just call it the “South Sea” because it’s only south of one particular place.
I honestly thought the article thumbnail was a picture of Texas until I saw the longer European-style license plate.
If you’re using an app, it presumably does not properly format the spoiler text. Most of the text is hidden until expanded under normal circumstances.
Wouldn’t help in that case, though. The ICC still has yet to issue a warrant because they’re cowards. All that’s happened is that one’s been requested, and is taking it’s good sweet time being “considered” while Gazans are dying. If he was turned over to the ICC right now, they’d just shrug their shoulders and let him go back about his business.
Got it, you get the final say, then.
How does any of this apply to you?
You ever have a bad day as a teenager, and then you go to eat lunch in a high school cafeteria, but when you’re grabbing plastic utensils someone makes a comment like “Woah better hide the knives from Stovetop before he cuts his stomach open”?
It ain’t great, is all I can say. Especially when you’re not even Japanese, because everyone apparently just lumps all Asians together in a monoethnic mass.
Say whatever about corporate assholes who fuck up and get people killed. Like if you want them to die, fine. But racial stereotyping hurts everyone, whether it be jokingly or pointedly.
No no, I would still like to know what makes harakiri the “usual Japanese way” in this context.
So just so we’re on the same page, that is the “usual” way that Japanese people today accept responsibility for their actions? Or specifically the Japanese samurai in question who own this particular firm?
Could you explain your previous comment for me, then?
Just like how Americans usually resolve their disputes by a duel at 10 paces?
Even in jest, your comment is a very negative stereotype to perpetuate. As someone who has been on the receiving end of those types of comments/jokes, I think it would be good to be a bit more considerate of others who are affected by that kind of stereotyping.
I hope broader international recognition of Palestine helps spur more recognition of Kurdistan.
We put Kalashnikov on Sergey’s rowboat, Ukraine cowers before invincible Russian engineering!
Hard to compete when the government heavily subsidizes the local industry while simultaneously making it very difficult for foreign companies to operate.
Amazing progress. Hopefully the rest of Asia can follow suit in short order.
I met a number of LGBTQ+ folks in China who were wonderful, honest people, but most of them were afraid to publicly display or talk about their sexuality/gender identities due to the risk of social/legal reprisal, given the deteriorating state of policies towards LGBTQ+ rights in recent years.
While other countries in East/Southeast Asia have begun to open up to the idea of same-sex marriage like Taiwan in 2019 and now Thailand, a lot in China see this as a symptom of growing westernization to be opposed. Logic being that if the westernized countries who we don’t like start to embrace the idea, we should reject it. And unfortunately a lot of Asia follows China’s lead in particular.
We can go back to last year and see what happened when Henry Kissinger died.
Granted, I think Henry Kissinger is on a different playing field entirely, but publications and regular people alike were honest about being glad he was dead.

Not pay the thugs?
Ahhh, so they “mischaracterized” it. That makes it okay, then.
