  • I want a modern difficult farming Sim with an in depth relationship mechanic and no fucking combat. The old harvest moon games are good, but I’ve kinda played them to death and for some idiotic reason they removed stuff like rival marriages from the remakes. Rune factory has combat, and so does stardew valley (in addition to having a relationship mechanic that’s just, really shallow), and it seems like all the farming Sim games that don’t have combat are like baby’s first farm Sim and are all cutesy and aren’t very difficult

Like it feels like this would be an easy thing to do, right?

  • When it’s grilled, whale tastes like if tuna was a mammal. It’s firm and quite lean and vaguely fishy, but in a way you can’t really put your finger on and isn’t really a bother. When stewed, it’s basically like beef but shittier. It’s got this lovely deep dark red colour and is kinda weird because you can’t follow or find any sinew or sort of “shape” to the meat because it’s taken off such a large animal. It’s just this chunk of meat you can’t really identify where on the animal it’s from.

Also I kinda assumed you’d have some whale knowledge because I assumed that you were an American and as an American you were forced to read Moby Dick in class because that’s like the great American novel or at very least pretended to read the cliffnotes on it and gotten the idea that it’s a great and violent chase across the Atlantic for money and revenge, and not like a small crew in a fishing boat in a fjord with a grenade harpoon

  • I’m not really an expert on this, I just know that the ingredients list on a pack of whale lists Balaenoptera acutorostrata as it’s species and I’ve never seen any other species for sale. We’ve been hunting these guys for a millenia and ever since I think the mid 20th century it’s the only species hunted, mainly because that’s simply what’s native to Norway.

As for why? Norway’s been a pretty poor country for most of its existence and any reliable source of food is a welcome one, and it’s not like whale’s the worst thing to eat. This was never a profit thing like the more sterotypical American whaling industry, it’s first and foremost a food one.

  • although I couldn’t get it to accept whale.

Seriously? I get this is a New Zealand site but like, whale is a normal meat in some places, way more normal than like fugu or something. I could go right now to the local grocery store and pick up a whale steak if I wanted to. It’d be cheaper than a normal beef steak too. Why would they blacklist a meat that’s actually eaten in some places?

Anyways the best way to eat whale is to treat it like a tuna steak - little bit of oil and pepper and barely cook it on each side. Traditionally though you like turn it into stroganoff.

Quick update - it won’t accept whale but it will accept hval (whale in Norwegian) so enjoy this…“Recipe”

  • because people with autism are rarely attracted to the banality of money. Business and economics are the most boring thing for autistic people

…you do realise economics is like, maths but with more organisation and planning right? Two things that are sterotypically pretty damn appealing to a lot of autistic people. I think you’re severely low balling the number of people who’s “special interest” is compound interest and poisson distributions

I feel like all these utopian ideas fail to take into account that uh, autism takes a lot of different forms and some of them ask for completely opposite things.

Some autistic people have a…laissez-faire approach to hygiene, some are neurotic about being clean. Some stim, others would rather commit murder than hear that goddamn toy go “clicky clack” one more fucking time. Some are hyperempathetic with no sense of personal space, others have low empathy and just want to be left the fuck alone. And that’s before you start considering comobidities - I think most people with ADHD would rather die than eat deliberately understimilating “autism cusine”

I feel like most people here are answering “what would it look like if everyone was your specific brand of autism?” not “what would it look like if most people were autistic?”

I’d say either we end up with everyone forming tight cliches (not good for a greater society) or one group overpowers the rest and enforces their “lack of social skills” as the new social norm. Now it’s “don’t look directly at people” and “be as blunt as possible” and “chili is banned forever”

  • I’m just using good ol’ fusion 360. I’ve tried learning like openCAD but tbh I’m not the biggest fan of it. I haven’t really thought about the cart connection interface because I’ve been using schmidt nib units (just because I have a few lying around) and the interface is built into the unit itself and like, why reinvent the wheel? I’m more aiming to design a pen body rather than simply make a 3d printed pen just because I can

  • I’ve actually been trying to figure out if I could print out an entire pen, sans the nib and feed (and convertor - I want to make something that’s accessible, not something that’ll drive people mad trying to make it fully watertight or that’ll get me sued by TWSBI lol). I’m pretty confident in my TPU skills for gaskets and this is also a project to test out how robust my CAD skills are, because I want to make something that other people can alter. Like want a pen with an unusual grip for accessibility reasons? Or want to make your own knockoff Additive Pens with resin? Or just want to muck around with designs? Go ahead!

…also ngl this is kinda fuelled by how bloody fugly every kit pen I’ve seen is

  • huh? What’s tumblr got to do with this? Is this about Automattic adding the ability to connect up Tumblr accounts to the fediverse? Because you do know that isn’t the same as the Threads situation right?

It’s very probably going to function like how Wordpress and ActivityPub already functions - as a way to let people look at and interact with your blog from a Mastodon or other instance. And if Wordpress is anything to go by it’ll also probably be limited to self hosted/paid accounts rather than something that everyone can have so the bot/spam/ghost account worry is kinda moot

  • If you’re looking for watertightness and optical clarity, have you considered looking at Taulman T-glase? One of it’s advertised features is that it has very little thermal shrinkage and can be tuned to be watertight for FDA approved food purposes. It’s PETT not PETG but that’s not too different from PETG IIRC. I’ve personally been looking to get a hold of some for my own 3d printed fountain pen experiments

Also there’s a chance it might be an issue with the sliced model itself, not your filament settings. Cura can do some funky things sometimes with holes
