  • The biggest risk is idiots not understanding its a prediction engine based on probabilities from its training set and trying to assign intelligence to it, like they are doing here. They are not gonna go out of control skynet style and gain sentience, most likely just hit actual edge cases and fail completely. Like ai target detection showing bushes as tanks, pickups as tanks, etc. Or self driving cars running into people. If the environment and picture is new a probability engine has two choices, have false negatives and prevent any unknowns from getting a proper detection or have false positives which may cause severe harm.

  • Realistically until we can move past religions its not going to stop. When you create constant in groups and out groups you are going to have conflict and blame wars. Until we can view each other as equals and for that to happen either everyone has to be under the same religion or we accept religions were a terrible form of government that need to be abandoned. And then we might just see rampant racism at that point if education is not properly funded and supported following the fall of religions. Then it would be nationalism until we can globally unite, and then still we will run into small groups of uneducated people who will be easily swayed allowing these bullshit issues to propagate again but hopefully not at the same level. Not that it’s reassuring but we have massive issues that need to be addressed for this shit to end and as billionaires profit from uneducated laborers, until we get to post scarcity for our species I don’t know if it will end.

  • I have always used clonezilla to just make a complete system image if that’s what you are looking for. The downside being its not gonna be a tool you just run from the command line, you need to install it to some bootable media and select each drive to backup. But if a full system image backup is your goal, I’d say give clonezilla a go.

  • If you have seen the crunch before demos for military projects you might start to think the other way. I doubt the bigger vendors will change much but you definetly could see contracts being won for shit that will just be ai generated because they got some base manager to eat up their proposal filled with buzz words. I’d be more worried about it, causing more contract bloat and wasted resources in critical systems going to these vapor ware solutions. Then you take general government contracts which go to the lowest bidder and you are gonna see a ton of AI bullshit start cropping up and bloating our systems because some high-school kid got chatgpt to make a basic website and no thinks he is the AI website God. Plus I work in the financial sector now and they have been eating up all the AI buzzwords like fucking hot cakes, the devs all know it will be a shit show but the ego from the executives thinking it’s a great idea won’t hear any of it, because think of the efficiency and bonuses they could get if they cut the implementation timeline down to a quarter. Not realizing the vulnerability, maintainence cost, and lack of understanding from the llm that will cause massive long-term issues regardless if they can get a buggy alpha created.
