I personally like both Posteo and mailbox.org, but they are paid email services.
You can use them for your email, contacts, calendars, and tasks. On Android, you can use Davx5 to sync them.

And on that note, I condemn in the harshest terms the response from communities like /r/linux on the subject. The vile harassment and hate directed at the FDO officer in question is obscene and completely unjustifiable. I don’t care what window manager or desktop environment you use – this kind of behavior is completely uncalled for. I expect better.
Oh wow. That community is just hateful
It lets you have all of your emails offline as well. If you have to reference an older email, it’s faster than loading the webpage again.
Some desktop email clients lets you manage your emails, contacts, tasks, and calendars all in one program, which loads immediately instead of loading multiple web pages. This is why I love Evolution and Thunderbird.
If you have multiple email accounts, it’s easier to use an email client, rather than having to log into multiple websites.
The search function in some web interfaces suck.
Some people just don’t like their email provider’s web interface.
I don’t know why Thunderbird can’t get a reliable, functional search ability. It’s such garbage. I constantly have to delete my entire search index and start from scratch, it is immensely frustrating.
Maybe see if Betterbird’s search works better for you
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work on GNOME 46 yet. But looks like the porting is almost done!
Banking apps and Amazon don’t seem to like it
Try going into the app’s settings and toggle Exploit protection compatibility mode. That let me use my banking apps that didn’t work before.
Self host FreshRSS, use the GReader or Fever API link that’s built into FreshRSS to sync to other apps on your local network. If you want to access the sync remotely, use Tailscale or setup Wireguard. I personally just run Wireguard in OpenWrt
There is no need to expose FreshRSS to the internet
I guess looking at their official 2023 report, it does look like they make a lot in the North American Zone (Canada, US, Mexico) compared to other zones.
I am confused why you’re talking about USA. The article doesn’t mention USA, and Nestle is a Swiss company.
I mean, better regulations in the US would be great though
On expensive ER bills that only exist because people couldn’t afford to visit a GP five years earlier and get some cheap off the shelf preventive medicine.
A few years ago, I went to the ER because I was feeling abnormally unwell. Sat in the ER for an hour then nurse finally took me into a room. They had to leave to do something immediately after putting me in a room. Sat there for 15 minutes and realized that my body was starting to feel much better so I left.
I got a $3000 bill after insurance. The hospital declined my financial assistant application to get my bill reduced because they said I made too much money. I made $16/hr at the time in an expensive metro area. Ended up paying it off on a 3 year plan.
I don’t recall it ever being a dead project. They did have a time period where you had to either join the beta on Play Store, obtain the beta on Github releases, or use F-Droid and install the beta. They were working on integrating certain things and rewrites before doing an official release.
It was a pinned issue in their issue tracker.
The whole 5.7xx series were betas, and 5.800 started the official releases again
Ever since the Reddit exodus, so many people joined Lemmy who just assumes everyone lives in the US.
“My rent is only $----/mo”. In what currency? A lot of countries use $.
I noticed that sometimes comments asking “What currency?” or “What country?” gets downvoted even though the original post / comment isn’t obvious that they are talking specifically about US :(
If you like Thunderbird, I recommend checking out Betterbird fork as well that adds more features.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/01/20/world/middleeast/houthi-red-sea-shipping.html
The Houthis have said that they are seeking to disrupt shipping links with Israel as an attempt to force Israel to end its campaign in Gaza. But ships connected to more than a dozen countries have been targeted, many of them not traveling to or from Israeli ports.
They can pay themselves a wage, which is a business expense, and then save their wages like everyone else.
Your teashop friend could just as easily pay themselves to run their shop and invest whatever is left into the shop. Profit isn’t necessary.
I find it confusing. How do you differentiate if that is a “wage” or “profit”? How does a person who owns a small business determine how much wage to pay themselves with? I would think most small business owners will just put enough money into the business expenses for how big they want their business to be, then take the rest for themselves.
A small business typically don’t need as much money to reinvest back into the business itself unless they are looking to expand the business to something bigger. There is only so much you can spend for business expenses when you don’t want to deal with expanding your business even bigger. Some people only want to own a small shop.
For example, my friend at the tea shop is happy with the size of their small shop. They already offer enough stock to locals. They don’t want to expand anymore. She loves running a tea shop and talking to locals, but does not want to deal with running a big store with employees. But from what you’re saying, they should keep reinvesting in the business, even though the business doesn’t need more money to avoid making a profit.
I understand profit is an issue with bigger companies due to them stealing money from their employees by paying themselves much more, but I am trying to understand how profit shouldn’t exist for a smaller / mom and pop / 1 person shop.
I am confused. From what you’re saying, profit shouldn’t exist, only business expenses.
So a Mom and Pop shop doesn’t need to make any profit to pay for their living expenses (not business) and shouldn’t be allowed to have money to go on trips or vacation themselves?
Employees are able to go work to make money to spend on living costs, personal things, and vacation.
I have a friend who owns a tea shop with no employees. So she isn’t allowed to make a profit? Only allowed to make enough to keep the business running? Sounds like that would be miserable. Might as well close the store and be an employee of another business.
Yup! Whereas with Media Tracker, everything is pretty much almost instantaneous for me.
Ryot was too slow for me. It’s really bad when you try to mark multiple TV series seasons as “seen” at the same time as well.
Unfortunately, it looks like they deleted the Windows branch in Sept 2023
If you want free, I’d recommend Protom Mail.
For paid, I really like Mailbox.org and Posteo. They work with IMAP/POP3, CardDAV, and CalDAV
