  • My anecdotal experience: I’ve seen more people I know get COVID in the last month than I ever have, including myself for the first time since 2020, and it’s weird because it’s been the persistently hottest weather I can recall in my area too. Maybe it’s because more people have been staying inside with AC than usual because of that, but I’m still worried about the colder months this year.

It’s good that it seems to be less deadly than it was when it was new, thanks to vaccines, but it’s still an awful experience to get it. I had a different symptom every day for a week, and 2 weeks later I still feel fatigued, like I can’t get enough sleep.

  • I’ve used this argument unironically with creationists without realizing it was a thing. “If God is omnipotent, why couldn’t God create something that didn’t exist a moment ago but then comes into existence with billions of years of history.”

It’s just an attempt to at least get them to acknowledge science while still leaving room for faith, since carbon dating isn’t really up for debate and cosmology offers more than enough convincing evidence against a young universe, just to name two examples.

Anyway I thought I was being creative and original… guess not.

  • People have multiple accounts - maybe even specifically to view .world, or on .world, and this PSA is what made them think twice before switching to it. I mean, you’re here reading and commenting on this post, and you’re not a beehaw.org user. But you could also have a beehaw account if you wanted. If you did, maybe you’d have been on it browsing local when you saw this.

Not sure why this post is a problem. It’s a good PSA.

  • It’s not really the content quality or mass usage that bothers me. The Fediverse is built on ideals of open source, privacy, decentralization, controlling your own experience and your own data, etc… All these things are incompatible with Meta and other mega corporations. In fact they are a direct threat to corporate greed. Meta is not a friend of the Fediverse and its premise, and their meddling here can only erode those ideals. Regardless of content, number of users, and so on, I hope the devs, at least, can stay the course and not cave to corporate pressure, and that all the Twitter/Reddit refugees can remember why they ultimately left those platforms in the first place.
